Intermittent Vibration At Highway Speeds?
Hi All! New to the forum and looking for some help. I did search around, and could not find anything relevant, so I'm reaching out.
So here's what's going on. I do get the vibration from time to time at slower speeds(50mph +), but at 70mph, it's pretty consistent. I'll be driving along and you will feel a vibration for about 2 seconds, then it goes away for 2 seconds, then comes back. It feels like it's coming from the seat and not the steering wheel, which would lead me to believe it's coming from the back. I also read in other threads that there's a carrier bearing(or something on those lines)that could cause a potential vibration, but I'd think it would be consistent.
Any thoughts? I'm kind of ruling out tire/wheel balance as the vibration could also be consistent and not on/off. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Check your control arm bushings, although I'd expect that to be more constant. Bad wheel bearing more likely IMO.
Also what side of the car is it coming from, or both.

I just re-read, sorry. NOT vibrating through the steering wheel. What you said about 'carrier bearing' makes sense. Check your driveshaft and rear diff?

Tires. 99% of the time vibrations are tire related.
If you have snows on separate rims put them on and see what happens.
If you can borrow a set from a friend do the swap and see what happens.
IF you move the front to the rear on both sides what happens.
I cannot tell you how many times over the last 35 yr and 13 cars vibes have been tire related.
The other thing is the drive shaft. Has it lost a balance weight.
Vibrations occur at different speeds it seems

I agree with the above poster.
I felt a minor vibration through the car at highway speeds, wasn't constant per say, but periodically came and went, and I didn't feel it through the steering wheel. I never chased the problem but recently changed all tyres from the factory spec'd Continental 5P's to the well regarded Michelin PS4S's. Now she's smooth as silk at all speeds. Just as a FYI, I had previously changed the rears due to treadwear, which made no difference to the vibration.
On my other car I thought my front bearings had gone as there was a rumble coming from the front at suburban speeds. Changed all tyres due to treadwear and the rumble disappeared.

On my daily I felt a weird sensation through the steering wheel, accompanied by a noise that sound very similar to bad wheel bearings. Needless to say I was annoyed considering I had just picked the damn thing up from a dealer who promises a 100 point mechanical check.
Jacked the car up and the wheel bearings seemed fine. Took it to a tyre place and the tyre fitter laughed at me. They were the same Pirelli Dragons that came on the car when it left the factory in 2011!. Chucked on a set of Yoko's and now it's smooth and quite.

Yeah I replaced my tires and had my wheels checked. Still got the issue =(
I'll take it into the mechanic tomorrow and if they can work it out I'll reply with the fix for me.

My issue was my whes, one was cracking and after replacing them all no vibrations. Although MAYBE it was because an issue with lug bolts. Mercedes use conical (I think) I'd make sure you use the right bolts and maybe swap wheels with someone just to see what happens if possible

The fix for this was the tires?
