PSA: Don't buy these wheel locks

https://www.ecstuning.com/b-eurasia-...of-four/11805/

After one of the guys that works for me had his wheels stolen in a secured garage, thought I should do something. Didn't want the normal type ones as they thieves just took those off in a minute on this poor guys car (middle of the day even), so thought these looked better as their didn't work like the normal replacement lugs bolts.

Get them, they are cheap ****ty plastic with an aluminum cap over them and 2 of them don't even work at all to tighten - they just clamp over the lug head and tighten with a key. They send me another set and they work. 8 months later now, one key breaks trying to get the first one off as it is just cheap plastic over a small key - finally get it off with some vice grips on what is left of the key and then the part that clamps over the lug is rusty and stuck on, more pliers to pull it off. Others come off a bit better, but pitched them all in the trash, if you had these on during the winter, good luck every getting your wheels off again and I doubt it would take any more than a light tap on them to break them and pull them off.

I would rather have my wheels stolen for sure over putting them back on - ECS should not even sell these as they are such a poor product.

Anyone have a better suggestion that isn't just the standard keyed bolt?

I'd like to hear some suggestions too, thanks for letting us know. Seems like a lot of wheel locks have these issues.

Have both, still requires me to be within shooting range of the car though and pay attention to the camera at all times!

Wheel locks are little more than a mild deterrent - unfortunately they're only a minor hassle for anyone with experience. I haven't bothered with them for either of our Mercedes vehicles.

Starting to think that is the best option and a dash cam so I can at least see who took them!

Some wheel locks are better than others. I did some research on this a couple years ago, and some of the keys are more differentiated like RAD, where they're not all over the market already like the Gorilla or McGard are. There are some magnetic Japanese locks that look like they might actually work. Also, if you're really psycho about it, you can put two different kinds on each wheel to serve as additional deterrent.

At the end of the day, these are only going to deter the casual thief. If someone's casing your wheels, there is absolutely nothing you can do to stop them. I ended up using some weird 12-pt titanium nuts from OZMO, but again they're just a deterrent. Best thing you can do is just not park your car somewhere the wheels can be stolen for an extended period of time, or in the same place on a regular schedule. Get insurance on your wheels if you really like them and can't do that.

Swap out all the lug bolts with a wheel lock from each company, that would really **** of the thief! Just kidding, your best best is probably an always powered on dash cam. Just spotting the camera is a deterrent.
