Road Trip

I recently relocated my C63 507 Edition from Arlington Va to Boulder Colorado. I decided to track the miles and compare my driving to the Google Map estimate. I have to say, this is the second time I drove the car across the country and absolutely love it. What these numbers do not reflect is the time I spent in construction zones on day 1 and spending 90 minutes in rush hour traffic outside Kansas City on day two. What blew me away is that I hit the mileage EXACTLY. It is going to be great owning the car out west with far less traffic and interesting roads. I was killing the car on the streets of DC..

It has been a while since I lost wrote a message here on the boards....but I had to reply to this one.

WOW!!!! That is crazy gas mileage! Great job there man!!! I'm lucky to get 20 MPG on a road trip. Like you, I drove down to the "DMV" a few times with the 507. I was lucky if I got 10 MPG in and around the "DMV." But, to be fair, the Dulles Toll Road Onramps, all of the nice on ramps/off ramps on MD 295 and the sweeping turns on 495 were nice.

One time when I drove down, I took a colleague to lunch up in the Elkridge, MD/Hanover, MD/Annapolis Junction, MD area in the car. He says to me, "Man, I have not laughed and smiled like this in years...my mouth hurts from all the giggling!" Our C63s delivering 10 smiles per mile.

Averaging 70mph over a trip of that length is pretty impressive. Knocking out 22 mpg at the same time is incredible!

I'm pleasantly surprised to see the odometer so close. Did you happen to record your fuel purchases to see how close the MPG calculation is?

I didn't keep the receipts, but when I did the calculations at the gas stations it was exact.

Today I drove from Boulder to Aspen over the continental divide which was super hilly, super twisty and lots of altitude changes. Once again I got 22 MPG driving the car hard.. I think two things really kill our mileage. Obviously sitting at a stop but secondly having the engine turn too low of RPMs.. Because of the large number of hills and passing on two lane roads I used the manual mode over the entire trip. I kept the RPMS just over 2k when cruising and between 3-5k when going up a hill or passing. Engine oil temps only went to 240F once.. I have driven other cars on this same route and have to say the C63 was a blast.

Absolutely! I am not sure if it will happen this trip, but I am out here for about 1 week every month... I live in Boulder when I am out here... Are you in Denver?

Yesterday I drove another couple of hundred miles going mostly up hill. Once again, I did the majority of shifting in M mode to reduce the overall amount of shifting the car does going up and down hill. Somehow I managed to get almost 24MPG. Maybe the car likes being at 9000 feet? Or maybe at 40k miles it is finally breaking in? Nothing like being able to pass other cars on a two lane road going up hill!

That's really impressive mileage. I'm mostly in town and averaging maybe half of that. In three-plus years with this car, I don't think I've ever seen 24 mpg - I don't think I could match your numbers going downhill with a tailwind.

This car is just AWESOME up in the mountains... Today I went from Telluride back down to Boulder... Somehow I managed to get the best mileage I have ever had while blasting up and down hills in M mode... I totally understand how this would be an awesome car in the alps or autobahn...

Yeah, I don't get it..

91 octane gas, manual mode and keeping the RPMS up the entire trip while stomping on it during every pass... I was shocked when I saw the results...
