Anyone out there with the Magnuson Supercharger kit? I want to hear about it!

I know most people here seem to run the Weistec unit, which I am not knocking in any way. But I am interested in hearing from folks with the Magnuson kit! It comes in at a better price, a great warranty, a factory look, and now I've seen they have released a bunch of overdrive pulley options!

I know its smaller than the Weistec Stage 3, and is a roots type vs screw type. But from what i can discern, the cooling set up is more robust on the Magnuson unit, and with overdrive set ups, produce similar, if not more boost.

I know GM guys love these Magnuson TVS2300 units, but I'd like to hear from the Benz crowd. I'm looking for reliable power, not necessarily the most power.

Also, who's doing the tuning for these?

Thanks!

And before people jump down my throat about searching, there's only a handful of threads regarding the instal and gains, no long term reviews..

I'm sure there are more threads. Magnuson also has a search on their site for authorized installers.

Whats the saving vs Weistec? $1000? Whats your end game, do you plan on using the over drive pulley, headers, etc? Who's going to tune the car with the over drive pulley, they don't offer tunes...What's the price on tunes from their dealers, did you factor that and the headaches involved if it doesn't go smooth. Tuning these engines under boost is nothing something you can get a the local performance shop.

You want reliable, Weistec has been around the longest, with the most detailed track record of clients. I dont see much else on drag times, not to mention, many guys on here with some serious miles under boost. Ive got 45,000km+ on stage 3 power, no issues.

Yes they are big in the GM world, but this is far far far from the GM world. Not knocking the product, it appears to be solid, its just all the other little things that don't come to mind till your deep into the rabbit hole.

There is no savings over Weistec. I believe the Weistec sells new for a lower price and have zero issues as it has been out for a lot longer. The TVS2300 will out perform Weistec stage 1 & 2, but will not out perform stage 3.

So... None of you have any experience with the Magnuson kit? Thanks for all of your vast insight guys...

And uh, Magnuson has been making superchargers since the 70s. When did Weistec start? Lol.

And Weistec kit looks like crap compared to the Magnuson or even Kleeman unit once installed.

I mean what do you want to know? My car runs fine, pulls hard. As merc63 biggest issue is the tuning once you get that right your golden. OE will definitely tune it on a dyno, but I ended up re-tuning OE's file with a local shop. I wouldn't really recommend doing remote tuning. I also might need to upgrade to even bigger injectors or a bigger fuel pump, running into fuel starvation issues on the track. But that's about it.

I was originally all about a Magnuson unit. It was their engineering and track record that had me sold. But, I live in Massachusetts so I need a CARB number on this thing. Magnuson says it’s pendimg on their site, but I called and they said it wasn’t going to happen. Not sure why they still haven’t updated their site. Still think the Magnuson unit looks great, but emissions requirements are no joke in Mass and it’s obly getting harder.

Anyway, back in the Weistec camp.

if looks are all that matters to you then you've already got your answer there. they're both EATON designed superchargers and both manufactured by licensed EATON manufactures. Whipple obviously is a different brand.

I shouldn't have said it looked like crap. I just prefer the "OEM" styling of the Magnuson kit, where as the Weistec is very obviously aftermarket in appearance when you pop the hood.

Independent back-to-back testing on a Magnuson vs. Whipple by SAE, and then separately by two different OEMs has categorically proven that the Magnuson TVS2300 runs significantly cooler than the Whipple 2300 up to ~18psi.
Also, the charge-air-coolers in the Hammer are larger and more efficient than the Whipple C63.
Note that the Hammer kit measures the temperature near the head intake port - where it really matters.

FYI... The Weistec CARB EO (D691) only covers pre-facelift models up to 2011 and only up to 6psi (3.15" pulley).

Just for clarification, only the rotor-group is made by Eaton. Magnuson designs & manufactures all other components which is why the unit runs cooler, quieter, and more efficiently than many of the OEM applications.

Weistec advertised price is $2000 more than the Magnuson's "Tuner" kit. Most installers/tuners offer a dyno'ed vehicle-specific calibration for ~$1200 with Hammer.

If you have a FL C63 and you get the Magnuson Kit installed, will the transmission hold it or will you need a built tranny?

The MCT seems to hold up well with the standard kit - many installs have proven the transmission to be trouble-free. If doing a lot of track work or adding the high-boost pulley kit, I would anticipate a rebuild.

I'm so proud and happy that I bought Magnuson kit. I have been using it for my than 6 months as daily use without any issues. I gain about +150whp without using race gas or C16. I'm very satisfied with power gain "Hellcat not a problem any more " In addition, it looks like an OEM manifold and it utilizes all oem senors, and cooling is much much better than Weistec system and this is one of hundred reasons that I bought and preferred Magnuson supercharger over Weistec.

The mechanic who installed my Magnuson supercharger was impressed with kit, he told me that kit installation was easy peasy and used materials are much better and easier than Weistec. Installation guide is soo professional, not like weistec!!

He installed many Weistec supercharger and each one have a defect, for example one of Weistec kit that he received the mainfold nuts was not aligned with supercharger which required a modification!! Also, Weistec fuel line require a modification "not sure if they update this problem". He noticed that Weistec updated their supercharger kit problems regularly with every kit that he installed.

I'm planning in future to install sledgehammer hammer kit which it can produce a similar power to Weistec 3.0L.

If you have any questions let me know.
