they were discussing adding headers to a BMW with a s/c and ESS was talking about their testing with the c63 and headers as an example of how you don't always get great returns. i I'll repost here if I can find it.

its basically the same blower Weistec uses and they make gains with headers just saying

They do.. I think more gains come from headers at the higher boost levels like Weistec though... like I said lots of variables....

BTW just to give you more to think on, look like ESS is going to have the Whipple Gen3 rotor assembly available for install in our kits, I don't know what extra cost, but look at the Whipple Gen 3 info (our gains will be less as some of the listed gains are at very high boost, but still this should kick the performance up)...

Whipple Gen 3 Rotor for the 2.9L (generic info)
- Adds up to 30-150 hp/tq at the same boost level
- 10-80*F cooler temps
- New Whipple Crusher SC Housing for increased volumetric efficiency

Gen 3 features all new 3/5 rotors that feature a new updated rotor profile and new advanced manufacturing methods, allowing more accurate and tighter tolerances along with increased efficiency. Each Gen 3 rotor also features a later generation robotically sprayed conformal rotor coating, allowing the rotor clearance to conform to the operating conditions and application. The Gen 3 also features upgraded double lip PTFE rotor seals for higher RPM, higher temp and higher pressure ratios.

The Gen 3 also features a new rotor housing with the new angled support ribs for a more aggressive appearance, along with revised port shape for increased rotor filling and decreased turbulence, resulting in increased overall supercharger efficiency. What does all this mean? More power, more power, more power while maintaining the same boost levels.

During extensive testing on multiple applications, both Whipple and 3rd party testing found gains from 30RWHP up to 150RWHP depending on blower speed and engine specifications. Standard pump gas applications can easily make another 30RWHP with no other changes.

Did you confirm this with ESS directly? Getting the new version would be worth the wait. Did they tell you if their kits are shipping with it now or if not when?

I spoke to them directly not too long ago and they are using the new gen Whipple very soon. They said they will be testing the difference and can be retrofitted to older models as well

I am also looking at supercharger kits and didn’t realize that ESS was only about 10 miles from my house so I stopped by their shop today and spoke with Ralph. They are now shipping with the gen 3 blower but orders are about two weeks out. The installation will look the same because the unit is under the same cover. I also had him show me their installation manual and it seemed clear enough for me but if I run into any problems at least they are right around the corner. He thought I should go with the Six pound boost since I want to run the 91 octane gas they make us use in AZ but he said most people go with the 8 pound boost. ESS will most likely be my choice.

I think all their BMW kits are centrifugal units. Not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Is ESS a sponsor here? Sounds like there’s quite a lot of interest. I know that a Group Buy would probably push me over the edge here.... anyone else?

We are an ESS reseller and site sponsor and would gladly setup a group buy for the forum

I'm in to see the price. I've been eyeing the ESS kit since I bought the car, but given my warranty I'm torn. Well that and a the insanely high price of a child's education in Hawaii.

Very tempting. A GB on stage 2 with injectors and high boost options for the header cars would be hard to pass up.

I might be in for the tuner kit. Id probably keep it at 6-7 PSI, don't want to ruin trans.

Whaaaaaa, come again?? When Brexit kicks in, we won't have to pay import tax? Have I misunderstood...? That would be amazing for importing stuff like this from the USA.

No, Import VAT is here to stay regardless of what happens with brexit. We are too far gone to change anything implemented by the EU. (and vat was implemented way before we joined the EU)

This is stopping me moving forward on it, despite the good exchange rate we have at the moment, there is £2000 worth of tax on the kit.

You could always have a friend buy it for you in the US, have them keep it a day, then send to you used... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Damnit. I got excited about no tax last night, haha. Yeah the exchange rate has improved for us lately....but an additional £2k is hard to swallow.

Not to worry I guess. I'll stick with my N/A plans and contemplate some nitrous if I can get around the torque limiters on the stock ecu.
