Built 2008 G55 & one big 80 Series LandCruiser !
spark plug question - colder plugs ?

I'm working on the rest of the build for my 507 - just pulled the trigger on some ARH LT's w/ cats and plan a Remus catback with it, on top of ROW's and a CF intake.....
with my car at 42k on mileage wonder if a colder plug like the weistec set would be any use ? Planning to get my EC V7 re-tuned on the dyno once all the mods are on next month so that could be factored in perhaps....

thoughts from the collective ?

TIA

Not necessary iMO but you should check your plugs the right way and see what they look like. I did and concluded it wasn't necessary as the OE plugs looked a perfect color. But a 507 may be a different beast. There's no substitute for seeing for yourself and it's not difficult to do.

I don't think colder plugs are required or even necessarily beneficial unless you're supercharged.

+1. Weistec themselves told me the same thing.

With the Subaru, the factory went one step colder when they upped the boost and timing in the Japanese market model.
With this car either supercharged or a serious revision of the ignition timing tune, possible where you would not be able to tank anything below 93 octane (AKI).
Or if someone decides to go old school and machine the block for an increased compression ratio (although it's quite high to begin with).

Or if you’re going to be using your C63 in a sustained high-rpm environment with any frequency

You won’t need colder plugs for this application.

But that is awesome! That is the exact combo I’ve been eyeing. Let me know next time you’re back in Dallas with the new setup! I’d love to meet up and see the car again. Glad you’re enjoying the ROW intakes.

For an aspirated engine without direct injection, this is considered high.
Anything over 10:1 used to be high.
What changed this were
Fuel injection
Knock detection
Variable valve advance
Direct injection.

Diesels start around 14:1
I am reading that there may be one or two engines in the 13:1 range, but I can see how they can be difficult, if at 14:1 the fuel can just compression ignite. And look what happens to a Diesel engine fueled with gasoline.
At that compression rate you need a product like diesel fuel to keep it under control. Gas is too much.

I just wrote a long paragraph about comparing the M156 to engines like the S85 etc and then I thought....this won't achieve anything.

I do agree with your points though, bar one. But it's all good
