Glad I changed injectors

Decided to take advantage of the low prices you guys found on injectors in that other thread and ordered a set from RM European. They came in 4 days and from the looks of it, that $190 was well spent. Had three others that looked just as bad. These are from a 2013 with less than 50k miles! Had planned on just having them cleaned but when I saw you could get new ones for less than the cost of cleaning it was a no brainer.

Nice good feedback. I also ordered a set from them the other day and for some reason I got them literally overnight from CO to CA. Impressive. Can’t decide If I should install stand-alone now or wait a while until I get the E85 kit. I’ve got 65k miles on an 09 so your report makes me think I should just install em now.

How was the install? As simple as it seems? Pull y pipe, disconnect fuel line and plugs to injectors and yank out the rail??

Thanks for posting motivation for me to get mine cleaned or order new ones lol. They’ve also been on my agenda since that thread

*EDIT*
Decided eh what the hell and just ordered a set. I’ll post up pics of mine when I swap them this coming weekend to see if they’re as gunked up as yours

Yeah you’ve pretty much got the jist of it. It’s really not that bad, should only take 20-30 min max

I wanted to wait on the e85 kit too but have an event on the 23rd&4th (and i havent ordered the kit yet) so I decided what the heck.

Install is a snap and you got all the steps. The only thing I'd add is that you don't need to use any kind of tool on the clips that hold the injectors to the rail like in the YouTube vid, just separate the clips with your fingers and slide them forward. They come off very easily. When putting them back on they have to snap in just right but it's pretty obvious. Also, I found using a small screwdriver under one side of the injector to pry while also pushing up on the other side popped them out the easiest. Mine were pretty stubborn. And they'll leave their o rings in the rail so be sure to fish them out before installing the new injector

Please tell me you didn’t pull out 3 different versions from your rail because that would be horrifying

Are you noticing any differences in terms of drivability?

x2? Is the idle smoother?

Any prior symtops that made you do this?

Yes, it does run better actually. The engine used to have a little shimmy at idle that I figured was either injectors or plugs. It didn't go away after plugs but I just got back from a long test drive and it idles wonderfully now. Definitely worth the $$ in my case.

Just got done with my injectors from RM Euro too. So it took me two hours start to finish. I'm a complete novice "youtube" mechanic. In fact, I'd never removed the Y-pipe before. Bit of background. I bought my '09 about 5 weeks ago. It's had several owners and needed some maintenance which was adding up. Given that I'm in CA and car spent most of its life in Illinois, I thought I'd go ahead and attempt injectors to "baseline" the car before going E85. I ran into three areas which slowed my progress. First of course was unhooking the Y pipe tabs. I fiddled and fiddled. Every time I thought I had one side and pulled on the other, the side I had just released would snap down on me. I finally figured it out. Just release passengers side first and then "roll" the whole thing towards drives side and it pops off. After that, I was flummoxed by how the whole rail was going to pass under some black vacuum lines that crossed over it near driver's side rear. I kept studying it worried about what needed to be disconnected. I lost several minutes there before I took a guess and popped out the black "hard" line that is secured to the manifold by those fixed clips. I thought I'd have enough slack to get the rest of the rail through and out.

Finally, when it came time to pull the rail, mine was NOT releasing. Granted I've never pulled a fuel rail with 65000 miles on it but man it wasn't wanting to come out. I wiggled, jiggled, pushed, pulled, and of course finally yanked. Pop pop pop pop. Up comes the passenger's side I was working on. And what a mess! While the heads of the injectors appeared clean, the o-rings down were nasty. Same with their holes. Lots of junk. I ended up using q-tips to sort of swab around the holes so as to remove what I could to keep more "day-bree" from falling back in. Buttoned it back up. No glitches there. Ran it hard on a test drive and looks like she's happy. Quite a sense of relief. Now that I understand how it's all put together, I'm excited to go E85! Here you can see a side-by-side, Old vs new, as well as all the old ones, some wiped and some not. All Q3 version. Also, a keen eye will notice the third injector from the right is missing a black plastic "flange" at the bottom below the brown o-ring. As I was working on the rail, I noticed this one only had half the piece. Then I recalled hearing a piece of plastic flinging off into oblivion when I yanked the rail. Initially I thought it was the clips for a zip-tie, but then I saw the injector and it made sense. Then of course I panicked and assumed the broken piece when down into the valves. But later, I found a main piece of it up top so I thought I was in the clear!

Doc Oc - those old injectors really did look bad. How long have you owned the car and what brands of fuel do you usually run?

I just got the car in early December. Run only shell vpower. Looks like the previous owner was running some terrible stuff.

My old injectors are Q3 as well.
I'm trying to find the old thread where the Q's are discussed and have no luck. Can someone post a link?

Oh and now that everybody has old injectors, research injector storage, they should not be stored dry.

It was in the thread on Eurocharged's E85 Kit. Link attached. Starts at around post 290.

The best way to clean your entire fuel system is do the BG injector cleaning service, it will do wonders without any of the headache of swapping out injectors (totally unnecessary). It's only $150 at any reputable shop.

The next best solution is put 2 cans of sea foam in a half tank of gas and run the **** out of it for the rest of the tank until empty. Sea foam definitely makes a difference you can feel. The BG injector service feels like 2x sea foam and is the most comprehensive in cleaning combustion chambers and even catalytic converters, but slightly less convenient.

only time you really need to replace injectors is 100k+ miles. Anything under that do the other 2 starting with sea foam first then BG 2nd. I do sea foam every 10k religiously and BG every 30-40k depending. Our M156 run super rich and clog up with carbon quickly so using sea foam & BG keeps your engine running in tip top shape.

Please, nobody listen to this retardedness. In fact, you should do almost the exact opposite of all of this.

Went to order and they're sold out. Does anyone know any other sites with similar pricing on the injector? I searched google and the cheapest I could find was over twice RMeuropean price .
