Should I get a c63 at 19

hey guys I’m 19 currently driving a 2010 c350 x pipe on it. I’m almost done paying it off but the lack of power in this car sucks coming from a 328i with a single turbo which was pretty nice but had to let go my question to you guys is should I get a 2012 c63 I really want to but I’m scared it might not be the greatest I’m making about $4k monthly with a couple hundred of expenses any response would be great & i was thinking of just making the c350 look nice but the lack of power kills me.

Just make sure you can afford the insurance, and have $4-5k you can set aside for any big, unexpected problems.

Mainly, make sure you can afford the cost of upkeep or you will end up hating it lol. Keep in mind youll be spending at least probably $100-150/wk in fuel, tires are $800+ a set, etc.

Do it, you only live once. Plus you seem to like cars. You're not somebody that just buys a car to get from point A to point B

If you can afford it, its one hell of a car. Im also fairly young and the only issue with have C63 at this age, is that now the bar is set very high for my next car. Will be hard to go up from here. Figure at least 60% more fuel consumption. Rear tires for breakfast, lunch, diner and snacks. If you can do maintenance yourself, you'll save a good amount. Everything is more costly. Oil change takes about 10L, so thats also and added cost, and you dont want to stretch those oil changes. Maybe getting an aftermarket warranty if cashflow is tight and you dont want big surprises. If that 4k monthly is after tax, you're fine. If not, make sure you keep a close eye on your cash.

Well, you can buy mine, I'm probably going to list it soon, a 2012.

I bought a E60 M5 when I was 18 back in 2011 right after I graduated high school. I modded it with quality aftermarket parts, and made a lot of sacrifices to mod it. (Basically cut unnecessary expenses). I was working at BMW through college which helped a lot.

You should enjoy what you drive. But just remind yourself not to be a slave to your car and have enough finances to still have a life.

I can attest to the comment above about the bar being set high while young lol. After I sold the M5 I was lost on what to get. But very glad I ended up with the BS, a definite step up imo. Next addition is a Vanquish S.

2012 C63 Edition 1 Coupe
24 year old here that just bought a C63 coupe a couple months ago. I figured that before I get married and have kids I should buy something nice while I can afford to spend money on an awesome car. Is your 4K a month after taxes or before taxes? My car runs me $650/month payment after 7k down and $300/month in insurance. That's almost $1000 a month just to have my garage parked. If you're going to daily the car your wallet is in for a real treat. My car is a 2012 so its already out of warranty and I am afraid of the upkeep costs I am going to incur on this car in the future. For me the warranty on the car wouldn't have mattered as the first thing I did was throw on a eurocharged V7 tune. At your pay rate are you ready to sacrifice 1/3 or 1/4 of your monthly pay just for you car?

My previous car, a 2012 G37 coupe which I bought when I was 19 ran me $350/month on insurance and I had a clean record, no accidents, no tickets. I am curious to what you'll get quoted on insurance for a C63

thanks for the response and yess I make $4k after taxes I can do the basic things I’ve changed a couple things in my c350 that have saved me tons of money I’m just scared of the reliability I plan on making it my daily driver if I end up getting it but I’ve noticed there is no sedan c63 out there I’ve dug for a 2012 and can’t seem to find one & anything I should be aware off? When looking for one & btw if I don’t get it I plan on throwing my c350 on bags next month

wow. 300 a month for insurance. What state are you in that’s insane. I pay 50 bucks a month for my C63 250/500/250. Age is a killer I guess. That’s nuts. To the op if you can afford it you will love it. Get an aftermarket warranty if you can like Fidelity. Iv owned my car for 3 years. Right around 8 to 9 k in repairs. My portion 300 bucks.

I'm in Chicago where premium gas is also almost $4/gallon so I'm getting double shafted! My insurance premium will be going down to $250/month when I turn 25 though

To OP, you're making some decent money for a 19 year old and while you have minimum expenses now, prepare for the future. Over the past few years I invested $20k before I set to purchase my next car which I also had over $10k set aside specifically for a down payment. I put down $7k and set aside some money for other mods. I would make a plan for any big events in the next few years, marriage, buying a condo/house, is your job/pay secure? If you lose your job will you be able to find another job making $50k/yr after taxes? How much do you have saved/invested?

I rushed into buying a nice car when I was 19 and I wish that I had waited and done more saving before I bought my G37 coupe. Honestly it suck that we get shafted because of our age on insurance which is one of the biggest reasons I waited to buy my C63. If I bought a C63 when I was 19 I would probably have been paying $500-$600/month in insurance which sounds ridiculous.

Yes, that insurance payment is high, but until you hit 25, you will pay high on it. Another item to consider is the gas. I DD mine and for a while I was having a long commute to work, no longer the case though. My one way commute was 53 miles in the Maryland, northern Virginia area. Less than ideal place to have a long commute. Going to work 5 days a week, I was filling up the car two times a week, in some cases 3. Not sure how long your commute will be or it if will involve many traffic lights, but that was to the tune of about $40 per fill depending on the price, but for premium, it's anywhere from $2.75 to $3.15. So I was looking at on average $80~95 a week on gas alone. I make good money, sounds like you might be as well, but something to consider as well.

Age doesn't really matter. Your financial situation does. There are 25 year olds making 100k, and 40 year olds not. Take some time to analyze your financial situation, your goals, and where you want to be in 5 years and go from there.

That insurance is insane. I'll be 25 in May with an '11 C63 and I pay $130 a month with USAA. No tickets/accidents ever.

Highly recommend the car if you can afford it, but do know that maintenance can be a killer.

I’ve been at my job for 2 years now they also pay my gas expense and tolls so that’s a plus I don’t have to worry about gas as much my commute is only 30 miles back and forth & as far as maintance goes I plan on doing my own work on anything that a basic like oil, brakes but I can also tackle some other stuff on my own. But overall I’m going to carmax to see how much they willing to give me for my c350 depending on that I will go for the c63

Hmmm 19.... i bought a new mustang gt at 19... 300 a month for the car, 100 ins, that was the 80's... take home... $1200 a month... at the time i used a rule of thumb to not spend no more than a 1/4 my pay on car and a 1/4 on rent... bent my rule for the car so I adjusted... Spent $5 a week on dinner, mac and cheese 5 for 1... like i said 80's.... but the point is do the math and if ya really want the car figure out where to sacrifice

As far C63 as a daily ? you have gotten some good advice already check on cost on repairs/parts for the 63 versus the 350....

Good Luck and if ya get it, respect that power.... learn to drive it..... maybe some track days....

I bought my ‘15 c63 coupe when I was 23. Insurance is also costing $300 a month. I do DD the car and have to say its been super reliable. If you can afford it, it’s quite an experience to own a nice car at a young age. Just make sure you have money set aside in case of major repairs. The maintenance and upkeep will be quite a bit more in comparison to the c350. Gas fill ups will be doubled if not tripled. Shops will quote you high the moment you say you have an AMG. AMG tax is no joke, I personally do most of the maintenances myself to save money. Make sure you have reserves, **** happens.

That is a great perk and helps to offset costs. Good luck with the purchase. Mine is a P31 with the factory LSD and the rare black/red leather interior. I do have 96k miles on mine so not sure if mileage would be an issue with you. Good luck on your search.

Based on the info you (OP) have provided. I would do it. Get a 2012 or newer. I DD mine (2013) and so far so good. Trans wont be a smooth as the C350 I bet you, but its easily overlooked when you step on it. Do it.

Make a budget sheet bro.

- How much after Tax
- Insurance / Tax per Year/Month
- Water, Gas, Electricity, Internet
- Rent/Mortgage
- Food
- Leisure

vs

- Set aside a few hundred a month for gas
- Car insurance / yearly tax (if you have those)
- Car payments
- Set aside a few hundred a month for gas
- Maintenance costs / Repairs

Simple answer is, NO. Like I told that other guy, there is a lot more going on. Job for instance, 4k is pretty high for a 19 year old, but if you were to say lose that job, are you in a field where any other company will hire you and pay you the same? Taking money for granted is the one thing young people do. The money doesn't always flow, unless you're privileged or extremely talented. Also you should plan ahead a little more. While all my friends wanted to ball with new cars, they ended up paying close to or over 1k for several years. Believe me it was lame when we would go out and their broke asses didnt have any money left over because they were slaves to their cars/trucks. It comes down to what type of person you are. Level headed with real goals and plans for the future, or a right here right now type of guy. Choice is ultimately yours, but I've seen this end up negatively more often than not. Best of luck.

I wouldn't recommend upgrading to the C63. It's just not a smart financial decision, and its not THAT much better than the C350. I'm in the same situation as you, stuck with a slower C350 or I can choose the option of upgrading to an older C63. But I'd rather wait and save up, and buy something that doesn't depreciate as fast as the recent crypto market :O

I'm planning to save up and build my career and hopefully after I graduate I can afford a much better car than a C63, possibly an used Porsche Cayman S. :P

Out of curiosity what is your background?

A C63 is roughly 8x the car of a C350. No offense at all, but to say it's not THAT much better, is like saying a Bentley Mulsanne is not THAT much better than an S550...
