2 rear gears in 7G Tronic?

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercedes-Benz_7G-Tronic_transmission

1 2 3 4 5 6 7 R-1 R-2
4.377 2.859 1.921 1.368 1.00 0.82 0.728 -3.416 -2.231

What the hell is this? 2 ratios?? Really 2 gears???

It comfort mode it uses the the 2nd reverse gear so you don't have too much torque at the wheels.

Thanks!!
So, when in confort mode, you can go faster in rear than you could do in Sport or Sport+ mode... usefull info for a reverse racing, lol

fun fact: there's actually an electronic speed limiter for reverse in the ecu, I believe stock is 60 or 80km/h

No, it would shift from R1 to R2. C just starts in R2.

What is the practical purpose of 2 reverse gears? Just so the transmission can cost more?

Less torque to the ground in slippery conditions, ice and snow especially.

I get that, but a car like this would do fine with just one taller gear. It would make more sense to me on a car with a small engine with little torque.

You want max acceleration when escaping the popo dawg...

Nice to know...
IŽll try a rear launch in sport (to force R1) and then shift to Comfort, and check if rpm drops (if gear changes to R2)... curious.

And crash into something so you can get a different car and ask these sort of questions on a different forum?

I do like to ask these sort of questions... you know, the ones I donŽt know the answer... 2 rear gears was news to me. And you seem to love this sort of questions, since you are number #1 replier. Much appreciated!
(And I didnŽt see you had already answered my question when you said it would shift from R1 to R2)

And no, IŽll not crash into anything... you can move your weird sick evil desires elsewhere. Not even doing it anymore, since you brought the answer already. Thanks, bad guy! YouŽre probably nice, specially in good mood!
