improving the handling

My '13 P30 sedan has been a great canyon carver so far. Better than I'd expected really. I'd kinda like to fine-tune the handling a bit though. After upgrading the tires, pads and fluid where's the best place to focus? I'm on stock suspension, wheels & rotors.

Using the search function and searching the c63 part of the forum would be a good start. Plenty of threads with loads of information in them without people repeating whats already there.

Miles on the car? If it's in the 50k+ range, now would be a good time to take a look at the front and rear sway bar end-links. My W212 was feeling quite rolly last Autumn and I replaced all four - made a lovely difference to how taught and more nimble the car felt. If you're on a budget, the rears are half the price of the fronts.

Keep us posted on your progress if you actually do anything to improve things

Lowering your center of gravity a bit will help with handling. Perhaps lowering the car on quality set of coil overs will help greatly in this department.

The first and easiest things to do are wider tires, lowering springs and swaybars. After that you might start looking at coilovers, camber plates, adjustable endlinks, underbody braces and stiffer suspension/subframe bushings. If you want to go further there are spherical bearings, subframe collars and wider wheels and fenders. All depends on what you’re looking to accomplish and how much you want to spend.

Thanks guys...and Phil. The car just hit 30K miles. I'm going to keep the factory suspension for now. I've had KW3's on other cars before and love the quality of their products but those old cars needed an upgrade. The factory setup on this car is actually pretty good. It's definitely a heavy car but it's still tight and predictable in tighter turns. I'm coming off 10 years of nose-heavy AWD cars so it's been fun to go back to RWD again. So much more feedback in the steering wheel. I'm already running new 275's in the back and new-ish 255's up front. Stiffer sway bars might be a good place to start looking.

Unfortunately I can't chime in with any advice... but I did notice you're located in Livermore (I'm located in San Ramon)! What are some good roads to drive on? I've only driven on Highlands Rd and was curious to know where you go to have a bit of fun. The only other place I could think of off the top of my head would be Mines Rd, but the road was closed when I tried driving on it early April (I intended to do Hwy 130 to Mines Rd). If you've never driven on Hwy 130, I'd highly recommend it. That road is so much fun, and it's a two lane, two way road the whole way so there's no need to worry about oncoming cars.

What are 212 E63 wheels? I thought the new E63 was running a 295 in back and a 265 up front.

I took highway 130 to highway 5 from Mines earlier today. Great drive but lots of bikes and motorcycles going up the hill. In addition to highlands, there are some great roads between Livermore and San Ramon. There are also some great roads where you live in the foothills on the way to Castro Valley. I used to live off Crow Canyon and had lots of fun over there.

Highway 130

Mines Road
