Car turned off twice while idling!
My wife was using the car and she went to fill up. My gas cap strap was broken so after she filled up, she forgot to close the gas cap and drove off. Next day I get a loose gas cap message.
i noticed it was missing and I bought a new one at AutoZone. It was specific to our car but for some reason, it is impossible to open it and takes a few tries using a lot of force.
Anyhow, the car recently suffered a broken belt s pulley which were both replaced by the dealer but now my car shakes at red lights. It's as if the fuel is gettinf cut off and it even turned off twice and the red light.
I do have a code for a o2 sensor downstream but I had it for almost a month without any issue. Im starting to think it's a leak somewhere. Anyone had this issue?

Totally a guess, but maybe it's the new gas cap. There seems to be some sort of vacuum pressure building up which is making it hard to open.

so lets make sure i've read this right. You lost your gas cap, got a check engine light for it being loose. bought an aftermarket one that doesnt really fit correctly. then your belt broke and they replaced it and some pulleys. You've had a check engine light on for a month and half for an oxygen sensor but its been running fine with that code. lol. How about you start with fixing whats screwed up. like a gas cap and an oxygen sensor. Then start from a clean slate. Or you can just let other things continue to compound over time and create more issues but ignore fixing those too and maybe it'll fix itself.or take it to someone who knows how to fix the car?

My wife's GMC Yukon had a bad gas cap and was having engine codes because of it. I believe it's also part of the emissions circuit. It took 3 caps we are ok now.

I am with roadtalontsi, troubleshooting 101 fix everything that you know is broken or was changed recently and then see if your issues go away.
Get a gas cap from the dealer, those cheap autozone ones are junk, fix the 02 sensor, clear codes, drive around, report back.

So the O2 got fried last month. I left the car in the garage until I had time to take it to my mechanic. I've been riding my bike since the weather is good here in NY. My wife took her GLE43 to the dealers for maintenance and we had to use my car that whole week. It didn't give me any issues until she forgot the gas cap lol and of course until the belt snapped. Pulled over called a tow truck ans towed it to the dealers. Everything was fixed but they refused to touch the O2 sensors since I have headers.

You could either replace the O2 sensors yourself, it's very easy. Or take it to an indy shop and have them replace it.
