Transmission oil leak 722.9
Hi all. My new car has a transmission oil leak. I recently bought a 09 C63 AMG from a dealer (car had been sitting around for months). I took it out for a good drive and then white smoke started to appear underneath my engine bay.
I had it checked out and there appeared to be a transmission oil leak.
Now Iv taken it back to the dealer (non merc) that I bought it for and they have said the sump gasket was leaking (transmission) . The transmission is a 722.9 I believe.
What are all the common places transmission oil could leak from? I had a look at the service guide for the transmission, and it doesnt seem like the electrical connector would leak as seen in the older transmissions as the plug is not as large? It looks like everything is housed inside the sump.

I would be concerned about whether it has the correct transmission fluid and the correct volume of fluid in the transmission. It is not cheap to fill it correctly and on older cars with questionable maintenance history who know what is in there.

Since your C63 is no longer under warranty, I would take it to a Indy shop, and have them perform a complete transmission service, and replace the filter and transmission pan gasket.

Ill be doing that, but wondering if it may be leaking from anywhere else other than the transmission pan gasket

Well the service manager has emailed this back to me
The trans sump bolts were loose so the gasket was not sealing. We have tightened the bolts and the leak is not there any more.
I don't think the transmission has ever been serviced as the fluid was all black and not red.
I find it hard to believe that bolts were loose especially from factory

I believe that someone had the transmission serviced but failed to tighten the bolts, besides if the trans fluid is black that means that fluid got really hot and was burning up. Even used trans fluid would be reddish brown, but black?

Not if it is the newer transmissions with the blue fluid. It tends to look darker as it ages and since it is blue to begin with more blackish than the reddish brown hue that the red fluid gets when it is burnt.

But he has the 722.9 transmission in his W204 C63. So he uses the red trans fluid, not the blue.

I have a 2012 C63 with a 722930 transmission and it uses blue fluid. They switched over to the blue transmission fluid sometime in 2011. My car has SA Code A89 - Reduced Friction which I believe indicates the blue transmission fluid is used.
We don't know the year of kkkk's car but dark blackish fluid is a possibility. Maybe he will tell as and help clear that up. Maybe he didn't get a big enough sample to really differentiate the colour.
