Best tires to compensate for lost handling
Hello I am new to mbworld. Recently I purchased nitro 555g2 tires for my 2013 c63 p31. After digging around and researching I decided to go with 275/35zr18 on the rear of my car. I figured I would get great traction which I did. And I am happy with the way the car hooks from a dead stop and rolling start. How ever I feel the car lost its handling abilities and the back end is very "rolly" it feels like the car has a body roll especially at higher speeds. Gets me a little nervous and a floaty feeling. I did not change the front tires they are still the 235/40/18. Does anyone have any recommendations to correct this issue? Could the issue be caused by having to wide in the back compared to to skinny in the front. Not the best with tires and sizes any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Yes they are drag radials. I kind of figured that might have been the issue. Would putting 245/40/18 on the front make any sort of difference? Will those fit on the front without rubbing?

They should fit but they won’t change the fact that you have tires designed for maximum straight line traction in the back and they don’t like to corner. |
Yeah I had those tires for a summer. Bouncy bouncy. You’re going to have to ditch those. Honestly you won’t give up that much traction going to a MPS4 or similar, even less with a streetable rcomp like a MPSC2. |

Good at hooking from the lights, lightweight, reasonably comfortable and progressive when they let go. Only snag would be the price...they're very expensive and they don't last long at all. I still think the AD08R is better for all out handling, but they are woeful in the cold n wet and very uncomfortable to drive on. |
I am very pleased with my PS4S... Seem to last and grip is very good. Dont have any bad things to say, probably one of the best daily driver tire out there. Yes, a 200TW tire could be a tad sticker, but when 1st gear barely spins in warm weather, what more is needed?

i have super sports as a daily and I break traction all the time. I’m not sure how much better the ps4s are but I can’t imagine they are that much better. There is no comparison on traction or can be considered close to a drag radial. My next tires will be a more r compound style for daily. Everyone talked very highly about the super sports just as they are talking highly about the new version now. I don’t agree. They drive nice but traction is limited. When cornering in 2nd gear, yes they can slide around if youre not careful with the throttle. |

As soon as you put a drag radial, even my 225/50/16 it's a non issue. |

Respectfully disagree. I was pulling better 60’ times at the dragstrip with MPSS’s (1.7x) than with drag radials. There’s very little difference in straightline traction until you’re FBO and even then it’s more about track prep, tire pressure and tire temp than anything else. And for the other 95% of the time when you’re not going straight at WOT, the MPSS/MP4S is drastically better in every way. I just don’t buy putting drag radials on these cars for the street. Totally unnecessary. Streetable rcomps on the other hand are great unless you’re dealing with torrential downpours, standing water or freezing temps. |

MP4S in the rear are decent, 275/30-19 here.
I ran RE-11 for 5 years and they are hands down better for handling (super stiff sidewall) and slightly better on grip over MP4S but don't last very long. The MP4S is better in the wet, the sidewalls are soft so they do feel slightly mushy responding to steering input. Although if you haven't had a stiff sidewall tire like the RE-11 then you won't notice. Had AD08R for a season and did not like. Worse grip than MP4S, loud AF when they break loose and felt even softer than the MP4S. |
Lets not forget majority of people I talk to with traction issues have no LSD , I have ps4s with factory lsd and the straight line traction is awesome . Slight spin in 1st gear roll or off the line!

I think people just expect too much from the tire based on the praise they get here and also not having experience on the car with any other tire. You can't really expect a PSS to "hold the power" and have zero wheel spin, especially at the limited widths we're able to run. Grab yourself a set of korean made rock hard compound tires from the budget shop down the road and see how well they stick. The PSS and PS4 are about as sticky as you're going to get unless you want to make sacifices in other areas like handling, rain or wear. Could try something like a Toyo r888r if you don't care about a couple of those points.
I used to run a tire by a company called "fuzion" on a 470rwhp supercharged 03 Cobra (because they came on it). I had zero traction but they lasted over 50000 km's on the rear, even after treating them like this all the time lol: |

That keeps popping up as a suggested video for me, perhaps I should watch it.
