High mileage 2008 C63 Advice Needed
New here !
Please direct me if I知 in the wrong place.
After driving a 2008 C180 AMG for around 3 years and now moving to USA I知 determined to buy a C63 but can only spend around $20k on it right now. I found two cars in my area that got my interest and are in my budget , can someone please help get direction as to which to go for as both of them are a bit higher mileage but maintained through MB dealers. I am attaching the links and car faxes below below !
2008 , 118000 miles $16k

I think it痴 a roundabout way of asking if you池e ready to put another $4-5000 dollars into the car as soon as you own it. The purchase price is just the beginning with complicated German automobiles. Just because the car itself is cheap, the repairs will still cost like the $70000 car it was when new.

Yeah. The price of these two doesn't matter. Get the one you want, as long as you have a few thousand a year for maintenance and $500 for rear tires every 6,000 miles.
The car is just awesome and worth it, but you'll have to love it too keep it running.

Buying from a dealer is a bigger gamble because they usually don't have any service records. Doesn't mean it's a bad car, but you will have less reference to start with. I'm a guy that buys a used car almost every year and from my experience, it's best to buy from a private owner that's a enthusiast and loves his car. You will know who that is when you call or meet them. They know the car inside and out. They can articulate what's done to the car in great detail or have a stack of paperwork from service or receipts. The 2 cars you listed looks good, just get a PPI form a indy that works on C63s. Google the vin on the web and see if it will show the old owner. If so, try to contact them and get their insight on the car if they are willing. If everything checks out, then I wouldn't worry about the miles. I've bought a C5 Vette once with over 200k miles and was the cleanest car I've seen plus owner had a stack of service records from the dealer.

Also, they both are affected by headbolt issues, which costs around $4000 give or take.
If they haven't been changed, it will come time to change them.

Neither show any major repairs done(top end) and the $16k model showing 'side impact/towed'. Given the mileage and year, unless you can, and are willing to work on the car yourself (replace headbolts and possibly cams, adjuster, lifters if needed), or can get some amazing warranty to cover those issues for the time you owm it - I'd save up a bit more and get a 2011(confirned newer HBs) with less miles for a few thousand more...don't think $25k for one is out of reach.

not a flame but this still kills me....i know that not everyone is willing to undertake it but its NOT that hard of a job and can be done for around $600 INCLUDING buying the specialty tools

the work involved is for a seasoned/advanced mechanic. you forget some people aren't mechanically inclined and things that are simple solutions for us will stump people who don't work on cars regularly. the simplest thing like what is the proper tool to use for a small space or even if that tool exists.

I personally stay away from old cars or cars with high mileage. In this case its both. Old cars have a lot of petty shyt that can go wrong but its still expensive to fix. High mileage means more wear and tear on drivetrain. Either way save some money for repairs.

Mercedes aren't BMW's....any "maintained" Mercedes of newer generation will be VERY reliable by European car standards of the same mileage.
The M156 is an amazing engine in whole...but does have its small faults. Honestly would swap an M156 into anything I drive if it was legal.

Headbolts are a pretty in depth job as stated above. Just saying, because not everyone is capable. If they're not, it's an even bigger factor in purchase.

Nothing wrong with a high mileage car, but if someone is trying to buy one because it's cheap they need to know that the price of entry is only the beginning with these cars. It's not like buying a $20k Accord.
