thinking about a 2012 pros and cons
morning all,
I currently have a 750LI and am looking for a replacement. I have found a 2012 AMG S63 with 40K that I have my eye on.
My question is on AMG's how is the reliability? do they burn oil? Is the upkeep constant?
In the last year on my car I have had to have the following done:
Replace all coils
Replace both rear air shocks.
2 soft close door actuators broken
and other small things.
Any pointers would be appreciated!

I've put $5k into my 2011 with 50k miles in the last 12 months plus gas, tires, oil change, inspection, brakes and insurance.
Reliability isn't the best, BUT THE CAR IS AWESOME! It was pretty maintenance free up until now, but I see no reason to get anything else. Just realize a few thousand and a few days a year are part of owning this car and you'll be good to go.

No one in this forum can shed any light on a 2012 s63, totally different car totally different engine so reliability of a c63 is no indication that an s63 will or won’t be.
They both say 63 on the side but the s63 has the twin turbo 5.5 engine not the 6.2 n/a engine so really nothing much in common.

These cars are designed to 'burn' oil so don't let that sway your opinion. I worked for BMW for 18 years and leased 6 per year. All of V8s since 2010 have went through oil at a rate of a quart every 3 to 5k miles. My C63 gets one about every 5k miles. AMG is reliable but expensive when something does go wrong. If you're not mechanically inclined and don't have a hook up with parts, I'd make sure to get a warranty no matter what. My credit union offered me a 5 year 105,000 mile warranty for $2000.
