Another Successful Track Season!
2018 has been a great year for the “507” at VIR - Road Atlanta - Road America- Watkins Glen - Lime Rock. 20 days and 900+ laps at VIR(home track)... average track day at VIR = 48 laps Typical lap = 155mph back stretch, 140mph front stretch, 2min 16sec average time and many times full threshold braking.. https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...fbb6507b0.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...167c8808b.jpeg |
I'd be interested in your tire and brake pad observations. What you used, what you'd try next, etc.
|
Awesome. Track days are lots of fun. I assume your car has the cooling package?
Have you done any weight reduction on your car. What pads and discs are you using? |
Impressive track time.
Not much available in Australia - limited tracks and limited days. Those of you in the USA are spoilt for choice. |
Always nice to see AMG's out at the track
|
Did you upgrade oil cooling?
|
Well done Sir! But you make it sound like track season is over. IT IS NOT!! lol
|
Impressive. I personally didn't have fun taking my car out on a track day. Brakes were too mushy and tires weren't grippy enough for the kind of track driving I'm used to. I don't feel like modding my car so never took it out again. I did, however, enjoying opening it up finally. My car ran like a champ after my track day.

2015 C63 ‘507’ - 20,450 miles, 37 track days... She’s a stock 507 with a few mods - ROW air boxes, DIY CF front air flow panel, GLOC racing brake pads for street and track. YEP they squeal LOUD on the street but they stop the car! Castrol SRF racing brake fluid. No 440 cooling package... car has never gone into limp mode... average track oil temps 265°F-275°f! Worst case so far - mid-summer track days 280°f oil temps with triple digit air temps... no limp mode. if I could find a 440 package to buy... it would be installed...been LUCKY so far! Replaced OEM brake pads around 6k miles with the GLOC pads .... they just failed - my last day at the track day front driver inside pad came apart... replaced with OEM pads at the track. Pads had 18k+ miles. Stock rotors for 18k miles over 30 track days. Replaced Rotors - Brembo 2124210512B from FCP. eom ContiSport 5Ps - driver front corded fourth track day at 5.5k miles. replaced with Michelin Pilot Sport 4S - 235/35x19 255/30x19 - street/track use At 10k miles for track use - Tires - Pirelli P-Zero Trofeo Rs 245/35/x19 265/30x19... needed to roll rear fenders. Wheels - 19x8.5 40mm 19x9.5 45mm BBSs https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...3325ffc8d.jpeg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...99dd4701d.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...ca3f47924.jpeg https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...8be42830d.jpeg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...a4a3927d8.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...c3e4b7dad.jpeg https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...06ed9d1d8.jpeg https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...02fd42da0.jpeg https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...64265f94a.jpeg https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...133221a64.jpeg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...985b07c9a.jpeg |

My first track day was at Lime Rock in 1977... raced VW Rabbits, Formula V, BMW 2002s, Porches 944/968s, E46 M3 with NASA over the years.. I find any car fun on the track! It’s Finding the limits of a car. Then pushing those limits... Its.. the quest of the perfect lap! Your right.... a stock c63 is not a race car... but the pleasure I get is hitting every brake point, hitting every apex, squeezing out a few more mph before hitting the brakes.... and You got to love a little a-hole puckering every now or then... It’s also sitting around with friends after the track goes cold drinking a few beers and telling a few lies!... the a perfect track day... |
AMG OMG! That's awesome!

Agree... that’s why I race the e46 m3 running 2:05s vs 2:16s in the 507... but as I get older the knees can’t take my stage four race clutch anymore... https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...9d0308a43.jpeg https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...6d605d054.jpeg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...86c41cbfd.jpeg |
