My engine blew up... and Coilover HELPPP

Hello everyone,
Unfortunately i have come here to tell you all my engine has decided to lock up on me with 57,000 miles, me only putting 10,000 on it myself. I am already in the process of getting a new engine installed on the brighter side of things. But anyway, I need coilovers, ive decided in fixing the engine, I might as well fix my rubbing issue while im at it. I was looking at BC racing coilovers but saw that no one in the MB world seems to be running them, so I am now looking to H&R. However i have a stupid question ( being new to all this really) regarding them before i make any purchases. What does everyone recommend? and i want to make sure i can adjust them up correct :hammer: not just down. ANy help would be great! Thanks all

At least a few people on here run BC coils. KW seems to be the best and what more people tend to run. I think it depends on your intended use for the car.

Tell me about it my friend.... With all regular maintenance as well, im just as lost as any of you. Im still trying to find the exact problem as to what happened, one of my fuel injectors locked up one of my cylinders and messed up the piston and leaked fuel all in the engine, I dont really have a clear answer yet.

interestng. Must have had the old version of the injectors. The older ones q1-3 were more prone to that happening. Most of the time though it doesn’t end up in bending a rod. Just requires removal of plug drain of fluid usually good to go after new injectors. Did you continue to run on it mis firing or something?

my thoughts exactly

So what is the cost for the new engine deal? Sorry to hear that at such low miles.

So I know that the dealership isn’t the way to go but that’s how I decided to go for the engine just because it’s such a major thing, I wanted it done by professionals, by the company itself. I’m paying in the field of 25k. It’s unfortunate but at this point it’s the only financially smart thing to do, many may think it’s crazy but it had to be done, I’m happy it’s in the works, new engine will be butter

can’t change what happened, can’t get upset, you can only be positive, it’s getting fixed, all that matters, she”ll be back and meaner then ever

I’m so sorry to hear about the catastrophic failure, of your M156. Anyone have a good 3rd party powertrain warranty recommendations? I have a 2014 C63 that I drive hard occasionally, but this certainly scares the bejezus of me as a owner out of warranty?

I had a 3rd party warranty through SDCCU, they only cover $3000! Like WTF.. at that point it’s not even worth it, if you can find a good 3rd party lmk too because I need a new one, I’m about to just buy the dealer extended warranty when it’s fixed because mine was bogus. $3000 is like a service... complete BS imo.

25k?! Wouldn’t it make more sense if you just got rid of it? I’m sure you can get it fully built from a reputable aftermarket dealer. I might be wrong though

unfortunately I owe 20k on the car still, insurance won’t cover anything, it my only financially smart option, fortunately I am blessed enough where I can pay for it, but of course I went through every option.

And is MB gonna give you some type of warranty when they install the new motor?

Where are you located?

yes it’s a fully rebuilt motor, I will get a 5 year/50,000 mile warranty, it’s a brand new car.. practically. I’m located in CA

friscomgm 12-29-2018 08:32 PM

Did you have a tune on the motor or a reflash of any kind? The fact that it just blew up for that injector issue without warning seems troubling.

As for coilovers, BC's are crap. Go KW. But what do you mean by adjust them up, as in raise the car higher than stock? I've never heard of anybody asking for such a thing.

I had a eurocharged v7 on it, just like everyone else it seems like haha, Idk what happened to her, just some bad bad luck, KWs are just alittle more than I wanted to pay right now but I’ll look into them, everyone says they are the best. The reason I’m asking to raise above stock it because I have 20in vossens on her right now and I rub a lot, the car is practically undrivable with 4 people and I just can’t corner or drive hard without rubbing, so I wanted to just go up alittle bit, so it gave it alittle more room to move.

its not the tune. Older versions of those injectors did that. They would stick fully open. Not super common but it happens. Basically hydrolocked the cylinder bending the rod. Op how did it happen exactly? Did you continue to drive on it. Most people it happened to did not end up with a bent rod or damage to the motor unless they ignored the symptoms.

right?? I would've contemplated suicide if my motor gave😭(just kiding) Hopefully the m159 internals prevent that. He is one disciplined individual i must say. I wish the best hopefully you find a good used motor for a steal.

this is why more m156 guys should monitor afr’s. Hey man listen everyone gonna be quick to say headbolts and what not. It’s very possiable a injector could’ve malfunctioned, and then u washed the cylinders because it’s happened to a couple of m157’s already. You need to remove the heads and check the damage to rule out coolant damage. My advice is run a afr guage next time because you would’ve caught that your car was dumping fuel like crazy. A stuck or improperly installed injector can cause a severe rich conditon of 8-9 afr literally flood the motor

alenpepic 01-12-2019 09:57 AM

Or if your injector is not giving you the equedate amount of fuel you can even experience a lean out. I’m not experienced with lean outs because of injectors, m113k we have leanouts usually from fuel pumps. Another thing to check is your fuel pumps because c63’s have been reporting issues about them with high miles in particular w204.

Jerry went on the Oe tuning route and just advanced the timing a lot for v7. If you don’t have enough fuel with that kind of advances timing it will be a nightmare. Story short everyone should be datalogging and monitoring afr’s. Good luck I hope my advice will help you in the future.
