Transmission Question - Shifting into Drive
Occasionally when shifting into drive from reverse there is a slight delay, the car "slams" into gear (hit the gas and acts as if it's in neutral then slams into drive). I come to a complete stop when shifting from reverse to drive and don't immediately hit the gas (wait a second or two until it feels like it's in gear). Car is a 2013 P31 Sedan with 63k miles. Service B, trans & diff services all done within the last 2k miles - MB tech test drove and praised the car citing zero issues or concerns. Is this normal with the MCT transmission? I haven't found anything relating to this issue searching the forums and only put 2k miles on the car since buying in August so don't have much seat time or history with the car to know if this is normal or not. Appreciate any insight.

Yup normal |
Mine does that sometimes.

Ive adjusted to putting it in drive, taking the handbrake off and not touching the accelerator till the car starts to move a little. |
Yeah i just wait a few seconds after shifting. Kind of annoying when you are doing something like backing out on to a busy street or parallel parking though.

Mine does it too once in a while. 47k miles. Flush done at 40k. Always fun when I’m trying to beat the neighbors out of the development in the morning :wall: |
It seems to be a common trait - my wife hates it but a flush / service and trying myriad ways of shifting seem to net little change.... it's better when warm and in M it seems however....
I wish like with my old RS6 there was a TCU tune option...... E |
Mine does it too. Is it an MCT thing? I find this transmission clunky in general, especially when cold. It seems to only like being driven at 10/10ths
|
Funny - my wife's comment was that the car " only shifted properly when I drove it like a rental car...."
|
yup mine does it too

Well, my 1987 420 SEL was like 2 seconds drive to reverse or reverse to drive. The 300SD was over 2, the 1994 E420 was more than a second.
When I got the C63 I was soo happy telling myself "no delay, that was a Mercedes thing of the 80s, 90's, you're done with drive to reverse delay" .... yeah, right! My forecast: It will be here from here on out, with every Mercedes generation ... They will somehow have a reverse to drive delay even when we all go electric. Somehow, the Mercedes electric cars won't ... reverse..... right away .... |
Same problem here lol, I'm really surprised on how common this is

I appreciate everyone's input and feel better knowing it's common. The gearbox in general isn't overly impressive but I'm also used to manual's having previously owned a F80 M3 and E39 M5.

Mine does it quite often when its cold, also takes off from a stop real jerky during the first few minutes. My older C63 with the 7G tronic never had this issue..it is very annoying.
