Urgently need advise (loud rattling engine noise)

Has anyone ever had this horrible noise before and knows what the problem is?
Lifters have been replaced, the engine has compression and oil is running as well.

wow yeah def sounds horrible but upper valve train related from the sound. I want to say cam adjuster, but that is very loud. Does it ever go away? What is the year and miles? Only coming from that side?

BLKROKT 03-26-2019 12:41 AM

Rod knock. Sorry.

Tj63 03-26-2019 12:52 AM

It gets more quiet after some time and it seems to come only from that side. 2009 with 144000km.
A specialist who worked on that car before said actuators. He replaced left exhaust and right intake actuators on that car a while back.

Does sound terrible and more like a rod knock but hard to tell from the video

Tj63 03-26-2019 01:30 AM

Rod knock would get louder though with the engine warming up and not the other way round or am I mistaken?

Tj63 03-26-2019 01:38 AM

Forgot to mention that a compression test was done and turned out it has full compression

Sounds like the engine in this vid:
The bloke did not respond to the comments.
Maybe the flaps in the intake manifold failed. One member experienced this and reported very loud knocking.

Good luck.

So my mechanic just sent me these photos of the oil filter...

Celicasaur 03-27-2019 05:59 PM

What's that brown looking thing in the middle that looks like a spiders leg got chopped off?

It doesn't look great with those little specs though....do they catch on a magnet?

I guess if you want to rule out all doubt, get your mechanic to pull the sump and wiggle the big ends of the rods....you'll have your answer if it's rod knock or anything else less sinister.

Tj63 03-27-2019 06:02 PM

Thanks, I'll ask him to check

Jasonoff 03-27-2019 06:18 PM

Looks like stripper glitter (metal bearing flecks)

alyqc 03-27-2019 06:47 PM

Your have a lot of metal chip in your oil filter (cop color) this kind of metal come from bearing (like rod bearing or crankbearing) ...

stop driving the car and remove the engine and remove oil pan to see what happen on rod bearing or crank...

really sad time ...

SatelliteMan 03-27-2019 07:15 PM

That's a horrible sound. Rods. I feel bad reading this.

America 03-27-2019 08:16 PM

Looks like copper, if so has to be bearings.

Ludedude 03-30-2019 12:17 PM

Bearings. Yep.

That's crazy, was there any other noise or symptoms prior to this? I get a continuous rattle or tick sometimes during low rpms, if I drive next to a wall I can hear it but can't make out what it is

What year C63 is that?
