Here's the break of the plastic head of the dipstick.. i tried my luck to go to a local machine shop to replace the plastic top and get a weld on a custom ring as a replacement on top. Lets see how it is next week.

Wondering if the heat makes the plastic brittle over time and finally breaks when you grab the end.

ML63 dipstick is available for the M156 not sure if it’s compatible since it’s placement is different being frontwards vs rear wards in the c63..

anyone wanting to try here’s the part A 156 010 21 72

Yeah, I wouldn't be surprised the accumulation of high heat for a decade in the engine bay have made the plastic brittle. Especially with yanking the dipstick out.

Anyways, here's what I managed to get done.. A custom metal weld replacement on the top of the dipstick and it works! A $15 job done.

Just a quick spray of paint to make it look nice and it will probably outlast the vehicle

I am having the same issue with my 2014 C63 after driving it at normal RPMs

I've read that there were some issues with the dipstick popping out at high RPM which is possibly why they discontinued it but is there a replacement?

Part # 156-010-17-72

My dipstick is twisted like the one pictured here

My dipstick has the same handle as the one on the top of the image but has the level notches like the bottom one.

Yes, I've already scoured the forum for this and didn't find a solution

I don't have any issues with my dip-stick in both my AMGs but will keep this simple fix in mind should something happen in the future

I thought they were twisted like that from the factory (like other cars I've owned have been)....I test drove a C63 a while back....that also had a twisted dipstick. Same with my Grande Cherokee....its done to get it a bit of rigidity.

The design meant cutting it from a solid billet of aluminum. Terrible idea for retail…

I’m sure you can if that’s out of a piece of billet you are probably looking at a pretty hefty price

156 010 1672 is the correct part number for the engine oil dipstick that replaces 156 010 1772. I just ordered one today. Has to be ordered from Mercedes in Germany, takes about a week to arrive.

How does one go about ordering a part directly from Germany? Is there a website or a person I need to go through..

Your local Mercedes dealership should be able to order it for you if you give them this part number. It shows the old part number as discontinued, but I guess most of the parts guys might not know that this one is correct and available

Did you ever receive the dipstick you ordered? Tried my local dealer and they said the part number is 156 010 1672 discontinued

Luck you! I’m going to try some other dealerships around me and hopefully one can order it. Most tell me they are discontinued and can’t order them. So fingers crossed
