Bad catalytic converter
any help would be appreciated, thank you
pS, My company “Auto Cores & Beyond LLC” also offers core charge. For your vehicle, we’re currently paying $1,350 for front and rear catalytic cores. LTH time?

Do you have any recommendations on any good aftermarket cars?
thanks for the reply
I would recommend a 300+ cell count core. Anything less than that and you’ll be replacing it again in few months to a year.
You will need to slightly fabricate the aftermarket unit to fit in the place of the old one. - I’m no fabricator but I’d do it with ease.
Any experienced fabricator will knock that out while on his smoke break. Simply unbolt the core from the header (See picture) and remove the bottom section out. I would personally weld in the new core as I don’t trust clamps of any kind. Measure twice, cut once. Spot weld the new core, test fit as you go. Once you’re happy with the clearance and the position of the new core, remove the bottom section once more and complete the weld. -Done
Keep reading if any of this makes sense,
M156 produces high emissions, hence why our cars have such high quality catalytic converters from the factory. Stock converters have a 400 cell count, fact check please. Also keep in mind that factory cores will always have a better flow and will outlast any aftermarket. There is no matching it.
Our cars have four catalytic converters in total. Two primaries and two secondaries. The primaries are bolted to the header. (See my picture below) - and of course, the other obvious part, the two secondaries which are placed before the resonator.
Factory Primaries are made out of ceramic with a 400 cell count. The “comb” is also coated in rhodium, palladium and platinum. The secondaries are made out of wire, not ceramic, and mainly act as a catch can. Hence why primaries are currently valued at $1,000-$1,200 and secondaries are valued at $250-$300.
The important part about replacing factory converters with aftermarket is cell count. Other things matter as well, like the strength of the honeycomb and if the core was plated. And what was it plated with. A cheap aftermarket will not last long, especially on our cars.
Feel free to email me for further assistance.
Some names worth mentioning are Random Technology, but I’m not sure if they’re still around. But I do see that VIVID Racing carries their supply.
