JDM C63 Required Octane

I took a browse but couldn't seem to find any conclusive information

I just imported a C63 Wagon from Japan and there is no sticker by the gas tank that says the required octane. The vehicle also did not come with am owner's manual so I can't check that.

Does anyone know if the JDM vehicles were tuned for different octane than the NA/EU ones?

I doubt it, so go for 98 RON that's what is indicated on my gas tank cover and what I use, or 100 RON which is better but more expensive and rarer to find

What country are you located in? If you're in Europe where they use RON, you need 98 octane or higher. If you're in NA where they use AKI - which is (RON+MON)/2 - you need 93 octane or higher.
The car will run on 95 octane in Europe / 91 octane in NA without mechanical issues, but with slightly retarded ignition timing and thus power loss.

I'm located in Canada and I have access to 91 and 94 octane. Thank you for your help! I needed to gas up last night and the gas station close by on had 91 so I put some in and the vehicle ran perfectly on it

I'm pretty sure NA cars are OEM tuned to 91 octane since that's as good as some places ever get.

All other things being equal, I could notice a difference between 91 octane (Shell or another no-name pump close to the track) and the 94.9 octane gas that is sold at the pump at Mosport on the stock tune on a Canadian 2013 "APX" car (engine-wise a P31 US equivalent so I am also assuming tune-wise). The car is definitely pulling harder up the back straight on the higher octane fuel.

going from 91 to 94 octane on a tuned vehicle can equate to 10-15whp difference with a tuned vehicle. factory tune i estimate should be in the 5-8whp range.

the firmware's are different for North American (Canada Included) versus ROW vehicles. North American vehicles came with restrictive air boxes whereas the Rest Of World has a higher flow airbox which equates to a 12% difference in fueling if you installed ROW airboxes onto a North American vehicle. this is not seen with ROW vehicles with ROW airboxes. additional ignition timing is delivered as well as the German autobahn videos online do show a greater acceleration in factory state of tune than their North American counterparts. North American cars seem to all have the same shared firmware's regardless of what octane your state carries.

98 RON (Japan) = 93 AKI (US)
104 RON = 100 AKI

In Japan, 101 RON and 103 RON are also carried at some stations.
