I would recommend draining some oil as well. It is not good to have the crankshaft dipping into the oil and frothing it up. If it is doing that it is not good for the engine or the oil. The engine does not need to be warm. Try to drain out about a quart/liter and see where that leaves the level. Easy enough to add some back if you think the level is too low.
Don’t drive the car like this. I would say it it more than a liter overfilled.
This often happen when you fill the factory spec amount (8,5l) without draining the oil cooler. If you only drain the oil pan, only 7,5 l are needed.
- Engine sitting level at operating temperature
- turn engine off
- wait five minutes
- Wipe dipstick clean and insert it slowly!!! while slightl wiggling the dipstickhead to avoid misreadings due to compressed air in the dipstick tube.
- take reading
Get a Vevor fluid extractor or something similiar. It will make removing that 1/2 quart very easy. For $40 it will be nice to have for the future oil changes.
