W205 C63 to have over 500hp...

Anyone check this out? It sounds like the non-S version:

More over here - looks like the Australian press embargo lifted.

Look at that torque number!

That render looks pretty good too.

Up to 510 hp / 516 ft-lb

Those are probably the power specs for the S - really impressive power numbers.

Wonder if Mercedes will play the engine underrating game like BMW has with the S55... if they do, it's going to be a beast.

Those numbers are insane. If they still price it right around $60k, it almost feels too good to be true. Official unveiling is next week but I'm really hoping they have an AWD version of this monster. 500hp to rear only in snow has disaster written all over it.

HP is pretty much the W204 Black Series, but with an extra +60 ft-lb torque and an even lower curb weight.

In the wheels magazine article there is the following quote:

"The new C63 will have traction like no other RWD car,” a Mercedes insider told Wheels.
I find that an interesting statement. There has to be more to that than wider track and different suspension.

This is all sounding better and better, here in Australia we will only get the top spec higher power variant

Latest info suggests the S variant will have torque output of 700nm or 175nm/ltr, not surprised at all as this is still way below the AMG 2.0ltr IL4's stock output of over 230nm/ltr and tuned output of over 300nm/ltr.

The power and torque output of the new M178 even the S despite being only a 4.0ltr displacement are conservative, it's not working hard at all, in time tuning will see big numbers from this engine that's what you'd expect from a modern engine with forced induction and like soolman32 I'm hoping for an AWD variant to be released to be able to make full use of all that

There will be no AWD for the C63 AMG. The head guy at AMG already stated this long time ago.

It's because it has an e-diff to manage traction.

Second this.

The AMG GT S gets an e-diff (while the standard GT gets a mechanical diff), so the C63 S may follow that trend.

A little info on the e-diff which was introduced on the SLS AMG Black Series:

New, electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock

A newly developed, electronically controlled AMG rear-axle differential lock with a shorter rear-axle ratio replaces the mechanical variant; it is integrated in the compact transmission housing. This system operates with a variable locking effect in acceleration and deceleration mode; in addition, the electronics respond more sensitively than to date, enabling excellent traction for the driven wheels at all friction levels. The electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock also benefits driving safety: in slaloms or when changing lane at high speeds the system has a stabilising effect, as it is able to attenuate the vehicle's yaw rate around its vertical axis. The standard-fit 3-stage ESP® system featuring the functions "ESP ON", "ESP SPORT Handling Mode" and "ESP OFF" is precision-tuned to the electronic AMG rear-axle differential lock. The same applies to the RACE START function, which provides for perfect traction when accelerating from a standing start in conjunction with the electronic differential lock."

Even if MB doesn't underrate the hp/tq & it just makes 510hp 516tq at the crank, adding cai/cat-less down pipes/ecu/tcu (should respond healthily like all other MB turbo apps) these basic minimal mods could put this little rocket @ 600-650 hp/tq @ the crank easily add bigger turbs & tune for 109 ahem.... This could be a flat game changer! What is it supposed to weigh? & what final drive ratio/tranny will it have?

No worries.
If no AWD for the C63, smart buyers will just buy a Audi S6 instead for the better car, or a Cadillac for a faster RWD car.

No DCT for the C63 was pathetic.
But, no AWD is just unacceptable.

Too bad the AWD E63 is overweight, overpriced, and has no DCT.

yeah those poor drivers in new E63 AWD w/ecu ONLY on 20"s w/stock tires, can click off 10.8x repeatedly @129+ in middle of blistering August heat What a POS

Ridiculous. The S6 is a more expensive, bigger car, not a C63 competitor and what Cadillac is going to have AWD and a DCT or be better than the C63?

You want AWD on everything then buy an Audi, but at this level the S4 will get its lugnuts handed to it.

It would almost make no sense that they don't introduce AWD down the road. The main reason they did for the E63 is so the customers can't appreciate their car year round and make better use of the enormous power. I'm paraphrasing but that in so many words is what the head of AMG said. Following that logic, the C63 should also get it at some point in the w205 model life.

I don't get it, what better use of 500hp do you need in the snow? A good set of winter tires and careful driving is all that is needed. Even if you have 500hp and AWD, you still need to swap tires in the winter. Then once you do that you have better traction, but in what conditions do you use 500hp anywhere near full strength in the winter?
