There is no ED on the M, GL, or C because those are assembled in the US.

Some interesting things:

1) You can have the NSP & CF Spoiler. I know because it's on my car.

2) The wheels we all know are not available however when I chose different wheel options; the front grill changed colors. Interesting.

3) When I chose CF interior trim; the aluminum on the door panels was also changed to CF. I think that looks amazing! However, it won't become true.

Can someone clarify the $800 Lighting Package?

The package states:

Pioneered by Mercedes-Benz, dynamic full-LED headlamps generate light that’s even closer to natural daylight than the standard Bi-Xenon headlamps. Active Curve Illumination and Adaptive Highbeam Assist continuously vary the beam pattern of the 50 LEDs in each headlamp to help maximize the illumination of corners and straightaways, without creating glare for other drivers. Taillamps feature a fiber-optic dual "torch" design and LED turn signals and brake lamps.

The standard features state:

With longer life, quicker illumination and beams that approximate daylight even more closely than xenon headlamps, the new LED headlamps enhance both vision and visibility during nighttime driving. Bright white LED Daytime Running Lamps and all other front light functions are integrated within the flowing sculpture of the headlamp assemblies, making the design as appealing as it is illuminating. Taillamps feature a fiber-optic dual "torch" design and LED turn signals and brake lamps.

So my takeaway is taillamps/turn signals/brake lamps are all LED. All DRLs are LED. But to actually get LED headlights, you have to get the $800 Lighting Package. Otherwise the standard equipment bi-xenon headlights?

Do the specifics matter? Weight is down from the w204, more torque than 507, engine mounts, diff, wider track, etc. etc...not getting the point here, we know the Merc is the muscle car out of the two.

I hope it's wrong, however those are the numbers posted on MBUSA. Maybe European version is in 3600 lb range, kinda like Alfa 4C that gained about 250 lbs coming to US.

LOL HOW FITTING! Being one of the fattest nations wasn't bad enough they sell us Fat cars too.

Me too but like mentioned above, this car is loaded and still the best in class -- IMHO. Plus I don't track my cars so I'm less concerned with moving the weight around corners. But just in case I change my mind, I'm keeping my eye on the Weistec R&D and may pay those guys a visit this summer.

Don't count on it being lighter than the w204. MBUSA lists the curb weight of the w204 coupe at 3,816 (more than 100 lbs. lighter than the listed weight for the w205). The other stuff is all good, but the continued excessive weight is disappointing.

The Lighting Package adds FULL LED headlights with active curve illumination/auto high beams. The standard headlights are LED. The C63 & C63 S have the Premium Package as standard equipment in the US. A Non-LED C Class can be found on C300 cars only.

I track my cars 5-6 times a year and am planning to do more. I like how Mercedes-AMG does things, but I'm a bit disappointed with so much weight (same goes with my Audi).

I'm more and more convinced to wait for the C63 coupe (what if it's just as heavy as the sedan?) or just go with the GT S.

If you're tracking your car and don't need the four door -- I agree, wait on the coupe. If you can manage the $$$, the GT S is also a great car with a great engine (TBD) with LOTS of tuning potential. I don't need to tell you this but anything > ~4K lbs on the track is not good.

No. It will always be. People would rather the car lose weight so they can eat more fries.
Sorry, I will turn the truth-o-meter off now...

Weight is always an issue and yes people complain about the weight and size of the GT-R.

Also the c63 is far from the gt-r when it comes to electronic drivers aid's...

And let's not forget that the GT-R has much of that excess weight because of an amazing 4 wheel drive system that contributes substantially to the aforementioned driver's aids.

If the C63S weighed 3,900 lbs and had a similar 4 wheel drive system, I would not be complaining.

I'll "wait" (or is it weight ) for some W205 owners to weigh their cars so that we can compare some "real world" data points.

The new M3/M4, well-optioned, is only marginally lighter than the new W205 C63 (although I've seen some cars in the low 3,600-lb range). Both platforms (i.e., F8X and W205) lost weight relative to the prior generations.

Unfortunately, the weight loss wasn't as drastic as advertised.

However, if the standard W205 C63 can weigh in at around 3,650 - 3,750 lbs, that is good progress. My LCI W204 weighed in at around 3,820 lbs (no driver).

Very good point...

Although this is pretty much continuing with tradition because of MB focus on luxury. The W205 (AMG and non) interior is much better than the BMW F30, F32, F80, F82, etc.

Adding a powerful motor and essentially creating a German muscle car is the AMG way, but there is still good handling to be had. All this with the latest automotive technology surpassing most other brands.

Shedding some pounds would have been great, but honestly, BMW itself is becoming more Mercedes-like. Their cars are creeping up in weight as well. Lexus RC-F is heavier than most people wanted. Audi's are pretty heavy. Unfortunately, that's the nature of the beast nowadays for luxury sedans and coupes and it's unlikely to ever change until they mass produce carbon fiber or something!

Overall, BMW probably plays this luxury sedan/coupe "weight game" the best, but their cars are becoming larger by the minute. The current M235i is the same size as the old E36 as an example. And the current Audi A3 is the same size as the older A4s..etc, etc..

Are you talking about the weight savings from the cloth seats in the "Luxury"-sport M3/4?

I was just speaking in general, throughout their history BMW has been the benchmark in terms of handling (which has some correlation to lower curb weight) compared to its competitors: MB, Lexus, Audi, Cadillac, etc.

I was really hoping for/looking forward to a 200 lbs diet over the W204 and am now looking forward to seeing some real world numbers.
