I'm real anxious to see what the tuners do with these engines, I'm expecting some impressive increases

Weistec just released some new info today along with some images of their M178 downtubes and midpipes. They can't be too far behind with the M177 C63 S stuff given the similarities of the two motors.

Any news on upgraded turbo jr? Renntech are offering an upgrade but I see it as a poor solution. Standard housings with bigger wheels (what we would call hi flowed turbo here in Aus). Any news on if weistec will be replacing the unit with a larger unit rather then just bigger wheels in a standard turbo housing?

I will let Weistec chime in, I am not at liberty to say what they have developed up until this point. All I can say is keep your eye on the AMG GT section of MB World, I should be recieving my AMG GT Edition 1 early next week and shortly thereafter I should be sending the car to Weistec. A lot of what they are developing for the GT motor should carry over to the C motor so you guys shoukd get some idea whats possible for the new C63.

Nice! Although I prefer to wait for a company that able it make mandrel bent downpipe unlike weistec, I see there will be a lot of welding have to do be done.

Ummm, these are 3D renderings, Weistec's M157 downpipes are mandrel bent so I would assume these are going to be as well.

As a person who does not know much about much about modding, I am curious why all these 3rd party upgrades companies exist? i.e, bigger turbo, cold air intake, exhaust, etc...Why doesn't MB or the original car manufacturers have these designs built in to their cars in the first place? I am sure they can afford all these R&D while they come up with the car.

You could say they do it on purpose. If they were to max the cars power them selves wed be paying a **** ton more. For example, 335i Performance pack which is just a tune was 1800. JB4 was 400. Performance pack added 20hp jb added 60hp.

This C63S maxed out to its capabilities would probably cost 100K plus if they did everything them selves. Id rather buy the car and do the modding after myself.

There are a lot of reasons, first and foremost is the EPA hitting the manufacturers with all kinds of crazy emissions rules and laws telling them how many MPG a car needs to get. Secondly is the manufactures have to build for the masses, not every person wants or needs a car with 800hp. Then there is the issue of reliability, I am not saying Weistec or other tuners do not offer a reliable product but any time you start stressing a system with 800hp you may be testing the limits of certain components. Most manufacturers offer factory warranties ranging from 40K-100K miles these days so they get very conservative with how fast they spin their engines or how much boost they put through them in the name of longevity. That is why tuners like Weistec offer various levels or "stages" of tuning, some customers just want an extra 50hp but still want to maintain their MPG and drivability other customers like me want to push the limits and the only thing that matters is make the most HP possible and having the fastest car possible. The aftermarket is a multi-billion dollar industry and there is a reason why.

Well said and I agree completely. For me speaking from experience reliability is the first issue and only one. If you are going to Mod it, do it right, no shortcuts.

Well put. Make lots of sense. I guess it does come down to reliability.

Manufacturers like to "sandbag" motors from the factory because they plan on bumping the power themselves every few years to keep attracting new buyers.
