Real world mpg?

Hi new C63 owners,

Just wondering while most of you are still in your run in phase and having to hold back the beast, what sort of mpg are you getting?

Mercedes has some impressive claimed figures which no doubt are unachievable in the real world but what are you getting? Let us know how much city / highway driving that is for that figure and if you was driving normally Oh and what country as mpg in U.S. and UK where I am for instance isn't the same. Happy with that km / litre deal as well as we can convert it.

Be good if any of you had the first C63 to compare like for like trips and what difference your seeing. Not saying mpg is much of a problem when you can afford a car like this but just curious if Mercedes have managed to produce not only an amazingly powerful engine but one of the more fuel efficient ones as well. They claim it's the most fuel efficient V8 around.

Thanks all.

Thanks for the figures Dave. I make that 32 / 24mpg when converted to UK mpg. That's impressive.

I'd be more than happy if I got that. For info my 335d (Not sure you get that model in U.S. as your not big on diesel's in U.S. Gets 43mpg UK average with that mostly highway). Considering petrols never get quite as much and it's got 200bhp more than my car roughly that's great.

So some much lower figures now. Are you guys still in run in period and are you taking it easy or your beyond that and driving her hard? I've no doubt it can go much lower if you really go for it

Also let us know what the mix of city / highway driving is. Thanks for all the figures.

Around 14 MPG commuting, 425 miles on the car.

Mileage would me much lower but I took a trip to the Florida Keys (206 miles) and got 28 MPG.

sooo lame.... like driving a new eco 3 series... had the auto-stop/start at lights going on...... I don't know how anyone can stand this type of driving mode....... in something so capable of godzilla-like sounds/snorts...... !!!! You have to have no pulse to drive like this.

Never again!

Oh Ok. Yes, the A button lights up in comfort. Kind of irritating. I wonder if this is good for the car other than saving fuel?

Do I see that you had/have a W204 C63 also? Can you give a direct comparison figure between the two for the same kind of driving? FWIW I average 13.3 mpg for an equal combination of in-town and freeway driving in the W204.

Xx

The w204 is the wife's dd.

She says she's getting 15-16 around town and 19-20 on the highway.

It's early days for the w205: It's looking like 15-16 in hoon mode.... And I was up to 25-29 on the highway in c.

I work about 40 miles from where I live, this morning I took half streets and half highway as per googles suggestions.

I managed to return a solid 21.8 per the trip computers.

This car is very efficient compared to my old cls63

Out all day today for around 90km of driving both on highway and in town(start stop, traffic lights, jam etc). Getting 13.7l/100km mainly with Comfort mode.

Thanks Betrezra and everyone else for all your boring tests. The results are very impressive though.

In my opinion big engined cars don't have to be hugely more fuel inefficient than smaller engine cars if driven sensibly. They just have a lot more power on tap to suck up more fuel when you want it.

I often work at home or the Office which is a train ride as its in central London. My driving is to client sites where I might take 2 hours to get there but it's rush hour and roads are pretty packed. So the chance for pushing the car properly won't exist. In these situations it's nice to put on Distronic, turn up some tunes and just chill. That's where I suspect I'd get the higher mileage some of you get when you take it easy.

At the weekends though all bets are off

I thought you were going to say turn up the smooth jazz and enjoy sipping a nice cup of tea. I was going to ask for the keys and get you a mini van.

btw, I'm a huge jazz fan too so hopefully you're not offended.

No offense taken. I'm old... 46years.... so I'm liking some jazz.....actually taking up the tenor sax..... so it's cool to hear what you want to sound like..... as I hyper-mile my beastie.

I actually feel a little more smug today after getting 28 mpg for my ride... kind of like someone owes me something....! perhaps I'll join a special cause, and dye my hair blue..... and ***** about wall st. Oh wait that's already been done.

Those are great figures and close to what Merc claim for a combined cycle (Assuming you went off the highway for a bit of your journey).

I also considered ordering an M5. BMW loaned me one for 48 hours and I drove it mostly hard but did try an eco run of an hour on 60mph roads. I managed to pull off 22mpg in UK so that's like 18mpg US. So seems Merc have pulled off a feat to get so much power yet also so much fuel economy out of their engine at the same time.
