Insurance costs - Australia

Hi guys, I am picking up my car in the next few weeks and are struggling to get insurance online quotes outside of the Mercedes dealership. I am early forties, with a clear claim history and the car is garaged in a good suburb in Melbourne. For those of you who have your car already, which insurance company did you go with and what was the cost? I will most likely run with the Mercedes insurance but it would be nice to at least benchmark it. :)

$2,700 with GIO (2 claims in the past 3 yrs - not at fault) parked on the street in high rated suburb in Syd.

btw, the difference between garaged and on the street parking worked out to $28 annually!

forgot to mention I'm 33.

I'm 31 with a clean driving record and I'll keep the car garaged in the eastern suburbs of Adelaide. Shannons quoted $2700-ish for the Edition 1 wagon and I'll go with them when the car arrives early next year.

Try aami, just under $1600 with flexi excess.

Wow - $1600 through AAMI sounds like good value. Is your excess massive?
Mercedes through QBE are $2700 (same as .dee and finch!) with a $1150 excess. Hope you are all enjoying your cars....

Excess is around $3k I think with the flexi excess approach (higher excess for reduced premium). But then you take off the $1.1k per year premium saving over your qbe quote and $3k shrinks very quickly. I have to be up front though and say that I have never claimed on insurance so I'm probably a low risk customer.
