Those with down pipes please post here
I have the performance exhaust option. I've been doing some research on a tune and I keep running into posts about down pipes. I take my car once a year to Montreal (from NY) for the Canadian Grand Prix:zoom:. Loved this trip in my CLS. If I'm considering down pipes should I be concerned about excessive drone at cruise speeds? Have a qualified shop that is happy to take on the install job almost out of enthusiasm for the build.
Will I regret the down pipes? I'd hate to have to yank them out because it's too annoying:smash:. Please chime in only if you have stock exhaust/performance exhaust option and down pipes. Not interested in any other exhaust options. Ps: any local NY guys I can take a highway ride in for first hand impressions? |
I talked to a MBZ tuner at the track and he said it only adds about 5-7hp

Ha, uh what? Downpipes on this car will definitely add more than that.
That is NOT including a tune. |

Proof is in the pudding !

Think I'll just stick with a tune and invest in a custom set of wheels. I'm not going after fastest c63 honors and not really comfortable with the idea of removing the tranny to install down pipes. I'll be happy with 500+ whp.

The graphs give a good idea but remember that they show the max increase at one point in the power band and not max HP increase.
|
It's clear the down pipes show hp and tq increase across the board but it's not enough for me to justify. I'm sure others on the forum would differ. Just my point of view.

Also because it is a M177 and not a C63S the torque increase is misleading as the GTS has less torque compared to the M178 in the C63S. |
Those graphs show DP with a tune. Let's see it without and with DP's only.

Both graphs show it with a ECU tune...

Most people won't do DP without a tune. |

Renntech site doesn't show anything for w205 c63 tune. Anyone have price?
I'd be happy with a 100whp gain from a tune. Think the Brabus tune is just too much $$$

A proper tune will definitely yield some very big gains. Downpipes will free up some power on the top end to improve peak power to redline. With a stock muffler, we don't find the drone to be overbearing by any means. The overrun snap crack and pop sure gets addicting though! ;)
On our mcchip-DKR Software Optimization Stage 1 tune, we are seeing max gains of roughly +100-110hp and +85-90tq on the W205 C63. Comes with a very competitive price too! We'll be making a separate thread also once we collate all of our media and dyno data. http://alexroyphotography.com/PE/mcc...C63_Stage1.jpg |
Where are the east coast speed shops??? :nix:
I'm in NY and this forum has little to no east coast presence. Keep the good news coming. The more offerings the better. As enthusiasts we all have a different approach and preference. I'm happy to hear them all!

I'm happy to hear them all! For the clients that don't mind a little down time and are not in IL, they have been shipping their ECUs to us for a full flash. We'll do our best to continue sharing what we do here! :y |
I have had downpipes on both my C63 (204) and CLS63. I have dyno tested both cars with and without. The extra power is minimal to say the least and cannot be felt.
There were no drones on either car but the minute you step on it past 2.5RPM, you can hear the difference. I did it more for sound and only because I got a deal on them. I refuse to pay the MB tax for a pair of bent pipes A resonator delete is the best bang for the buck for sound purposes. |
