Trading 204c63 for 205c63s?
Hi guys, I'm having a few engine related reliability issues with my 2013 C63 and i'm thinking about trading it in this summer. I wanted an honest opinion from those of you who came from a 204 C63 how you feel about the new car. I really still love my current car but not sure i want to chance it with all the trips into the shop.
thanks in advance for any feedback on your new rides.

I owned a 2012 C63 until last month and I purchased a 2015 C63s Ed. 1 about 9 months ago. My wife mostly drove the 2012 as it was her car, but I drove it plenty on weekends.
The C63s handles much better than the older C63. You can get the rear end to swing out, but unlike the old C63, you actually have to try rather than just having it happen unexpectedly ;-)
The engine on the C63s is wonderful, but, nothing beats the NA 6.2l beauty from the old C63 (at least when it is working properly ;-). On the other hand, the 6.2 burned lots of oil even after 15K miles. This always worried me. By contrast, the new 4l has not used any oil in the first 10K miles (oil changes at 1.5K & 6K). I'm very impressed with how tight the new engine seems to be.
The interior of the C63s is also a step up from the older C63. The old car was nice, but the new car is definitely in a different class. I had the performance seats in both cars and (assuming they fit you) I think the new performance seats again are a step up.
When it came time to pick a C63 to trade-in, I was sad to see the 6.2l engine go, but there was never any doubt that the C63s was staying.
Good luck with your choice.

I own a 204 and have test-driven the 205 several time and I will echo Ira's comments. I think he nailed it, but he will of course know better then me since he actually owns it.
To me, the 205 feels just a little blunted relative to the 204 in some aspects (such as the noise and engine response at top end), but the tradeoffs are worth it as the 204 will only get older and you do get some added tech and that amazing interior with the 205. I think it depends on what you want. If you want something hair brained and crazy stick with the 204. If you want something slightly more refined but still very fast and fun, the 205 should be a great option.
I remember while driving the 205 I was really loving every minute of it, without any complaints. Only after the test drive and getting back into the 204 did I realize that I prefer the 204 engine. But assuming you wouldn't have a 204 in the garage to do direct daily comparisons too, I think the memory would fade and the difference is simply not that great

And just to be fair and complete, the C63s does not come close to the amazing exhaust bark on start up that the older C63 produces. I have the performance exhaust on my C63s and it does make very nice noise and fun pops on deceleration. Nonetheless, the older C63 exhaust simply can't be beat.

Literally going through the exact same decision process right now with my 2009. Just drop a W205 S and it was very nice, but it definitely seemed to lack the sharp edge of the 09.

I traded in a 2012 C63 Coupe for my new C63S saloon in December. The new car is definitely a step up in many ways. It is much more modern, has loads more toys and gizmos, and ultimately is faster (atleast compared to my old one). I do not feel as secure driving it at the moment after 2 months. I am not as confident but then I had the old one for 3.5 years and had done track days and knew all there was to how to drive it. So maybe I am being unfair.
Part of the slight nervousness I have is the steering as mentioned in another thread. I didnt notice it on the test drive but I was in Sport most of that. The feeling it is steering a little too much does make me feel a touch uncomfortable.
But overall I wouldnt swap back. The old engine was epic and I miss some of it but I dont think the noise is any less, the engine response is amazing for a Turbo and with no adjustable suspension/steering etc I am sure when I get used to it the handling will be better. The differing modes mean it is more comfortable in C than the old model as the suspension was always a compromise.
Go try one and do a proper test drive in all modes.

Thanks for all the replies. The main problem for me is I still really love my current C63. Even though it's a heavy car it feels like diving a go cart with a huge V8 to me. I'm really just concerned about post warranty issues. So that would be my main reason to trade the car.
I still have time so I will go check out a new one some time.
Thanks again

^ Its been in the shop multiple times since new with noisy cam actuators. The latest issue was an engine light came on after the last round of cam actuator work was done. The code was for low compression on drivers side of engine. So they did a compression and leak-down test and found 140 psi on right side and 125 psi on the left side. The dealer said its ok but I'm not feeling to confident about it.
That is why i am considering my options for after the warranty is up. I can only imagine the bill would have been for all the work that's been done.
