Disable ECO Mode on C63S

Guys how can we disable the ECO mode on start up?

EkS 12-01-2016 09:07 PM

You can't, a tune is the only way.

DoctorLoomis 12-01-2016 09:10 PM

Please tell me more........

Benzshill 12-02-2016 12:51 AM

Yeah this is driving me crazy and I've had the car for just a week.

AmexWest 12-02-2016 01:16 AM

Just set an "Individual" configuration for Sport+ (or anything not Comfort) and when you get into the car, hit the console selector up once to go into Individual mode.
The key is that Individual mode is always on tap up when you turn the car on. So starting the car is pushing the dash button and tapping a selector.

Not got my Coupe yet, but if setting the drive mode every time you start the car sounds dumb, try this:

http://www.midcityengineering.com/pr...ass-2015-2016/

Spoke with them and they say the product works on 2017 models as well. I will be going this route.

AmexWest 12-02-2016 07:14 PM

Does the MidCity mod put you into Individual mode by default? If all it does is disable the engine start/stop in Comfort mode, it's pointless. You are still going to want to be in Sport+ or something. So you are still hitting a switch or two when you get in.
For example, the car does not default to sport exhaust.

Best procedure is to config everything in Individual, then single tap into that mode when you get in the car.

It does not say how it works.
Does it let you choose what default mode you start in or just not let the start stop come on?
If it does not let you choose S+ as startup, then it would be worthless as you would still have to hit the "I" mode to get to all your configuration.
I am so used to just hitting the start button and my hand automatically goes to the mode switch and 1 push up and all is right with the world again.
doing this also lets it start in loud exhaust mode (exhaust valve opens before car starts)as that is programed in to "I" mode.
I'm so used to this that I would not pay to change it. :nix:

It puts you in "I" mode at start.

Any update or review on this product? How is it installed, how does the switch work, any issues DIY to look out for?

fresnobrianb 01-21-2018 10:55 PM

While agree you should be able to set the car to start in whatever mode you want, I don’t even think about it anymore. It’s purely an instinct now. I just sit down, start the car and drive and somewhere in there hit the selector, every time. I’m certainly you will be the same.

Hello,

There are two options for the EcoOff- both of which can be programmed on or off after installation. The default option is for the module to automatically turn Eco mode off after ignition is turned on. The second option, which is the option for you is for the module to automatically turn on Individual mode after it sees ignition- so you will be able to set all of your I mode parameters to your preference and they will be on or off after ignition. Please don't hesitate to call us at 312-421-1114, email sales@midcityengineering.com, or reply to this post if you have any questions.

All this to avoid pressing a switch....:bsflag:

Haha yeah this is a usability issue, It’s annoying like windows asking you if you really want to delete that word doc with two msg prompts.

Whoever designed it to be on all the time and not allow us to set our own start up mode wasn’t thinking right. I get 10 surveys every time i buy a Merc, this feedback needs to go into one of those surveys.

I will bet it is one of MB's ways to satisfy the government mileage rules--theoretically the ECO function saves some fuel (while burning up your starter in the process with all the on/off-s). I asked the MB dealer if they could defeat it and was told MB has TOLD them NOT to touch it

Apologies for the newbie question. Is this thread about the auto start/stop function and the fact that it defaults to "enabled" when you first turn the car on and have to "disable" it on the console every time?

Is it really enabled all modes (except for individual), or is it only enabled in comfort mode (and presumably the 2019's slippery mode)?

(BTW, while it might be annoying to have to turn it off each time you start the car, I'm going to consider it an improvement. It's permanently enabled on the car I'm driving at the moment; there's no way to disable it, even temporarily.)

citizensane 11-18-2018 03:27 PM

Yes--On Ebay--I have bought Vladimir's VIM (video in motion) module--AND the codes to defeat both the ECO (stop/start) AND the DRV (the sport/comfort mode transmission button)
The VIM module --$99 is needed and then you can buy individual coding for each function you wish to modify--at $39 per function (thus 39 X 2 for the two I want to change).
The concept is that instead of the Eco being default ON (needing a button press to turn it off each car start)--is made to default to OFF--so if you somehow want the idiot ECO functioning--you will have to press it each time
For the DRV--the default is "comfort" mode--but it is reversed to be "sport" mode as default. Voila--no more button pushing--just ignition on and GO--
I think I'll also have video capabilities via the LCD console display--but I don't even care about that
--This require pulling the head unit out of the console--but I have a guy who can do that (video instructions are on Vladimir's ebay listing)
I will soon find out if it all works

Do you think he can code other things? Like if I have multibeam led but missing smart auto high beam. It could be coded but nearest coder is 6+ hrs of driving

citizensane 11-19-2018 04:18 AM

Go to his Ebay listing for the VIM module --it lists the functions that can be changed--about 5 of them. Don't think headlight functions are on the list---aside from the ones I bought--something about being able to code your remote key to open/close all windows--Trunk sunroof etc--and some other trivial things
the only two I wanted were what I bought
The link to Vlad's ebay listing is with in this thread somewhere--plus there's a lot of youtube instrucitonal stuff
BUT--I haven't gotten any of this done yet--so jury is still out for me

I drive in S+ all the time so not really an issue.

Likewise, does this work on the 2019 C63s? how is it installed?

you can order one of eBay OBD plugs for that and then find the codes by reading the OBD can bus logs - this is the easiest way I think
