2017 C63s coupe weird sound from engine

Hi mates,

Got this great car, love it, but i hear unfamiliar sound from engine. Maybe it is normal, just wanted to ask You for little help. I´ve uploaded 3 vids, please check, I will be very greatfull for any response.

Now, i will try to describe as good as possible what i mean.
When i fire up the engine (cold start),besides normal sounds that i encounter in every petrol car, i can hear tickin noise, that is irregular. As the engine is warming up, the tickin noise is becoming less loud and less frequent, but still irregular. When the engine is fully warmed (95C), the noise is barely noticable, and one need to have streched ears to catch it, but is allways there.
MB technician said, i schould not worry, it is the fuel pump, that is making the sound and it is normal with amg engines.
Car has 370km, so still in break in period. I would say im gently with it, keeping revs under 4000, half throttle, half boost max, always fully warmed before moderate accel. Using best petrol i can get( Shell V power racing nitro, 100.)
Guys, can You please confirm You hear the same, or maybe upload some vid so i can compare how other engines sound and show to my AD ( in worst case scenario..)

Thanks to all for interrest!

I have ticking noises from the engine on my 2017 C63S as well. About 1500 miles now.
Like you, it seems intermittent. Haven't identified a particular pattern for it. Didn't think anything particularly worrisome about it.

When you open the hood, the engine bay is just jam packed with...stuff. And stuff makes noises.

The newer engine fuel systems are incredibly loud. Comes with the territory, they want to squeeze max performance out of the engines, needs higher fuel pressures and more precise injectors, as these parts get more powerful they get noisier.

Leave the exhaust in race mode and you won't notice it

Thanx for response! Is the tickin sound simmilar? Would You be so nice to record 20-30 seconds on cold startup and post here?

I was little woried, because I ve seen many videos with C63 and cant recall ticks like this..

That does not sound like is fuel pump or injector related, I have 2016 c63s sedan and I also had the 2016 non S version and I have never came across that sound.

I think same like you, dont believe its relative fuel system.. Repetition is too slow for fuel system, and the unevennes also.....
But then, what else? One of valves?

Donno what to do.. One person is saying that is normal sound(and has it too), other one doesnt..(or doesnt have) 50:50

God its killing me, have new 100k car and being forced to deal with such a things.

More vids would be helpfull, guys please can you post some? Broken (or faulty) engine is but more serious than rattles, fuzzy tranny etc..

Yep, i got it. Im aware of that high pressure components of such powerfull engine would make loud noises, but then they would be more even. What bothers me, on cold start the engine itself is running pretty smooth, only ticking is extreme. As warming up, tickin is becoming less eminent, until it almost disapears.. almost.. Do you think it has something to do with fuel injection?

Now the top of the cake :

Today I left my car running (fully warmed up) with open exhaust, walked few meters (4-5) away (wasnt a test, i was buying some food) and ticking was still clearly noticable. Car was facing with front towards me of course... but even so... i dont think it is normal..

It sounds more like a pulley (bearing sound). Injectors have a very distinctive sound and it's always consistent (even when the motor is cold or hot).

1 of the ways to verify is to very slightly increase the revs, you'll notice that noise will disappear and reappear when the motor drops down to idle revs.

Generally the sound should be more evident when the motor is cold (i.e. bearings being cold) and once the motor warms up which in turn heats up the bearings, the sound should drastically reduce or disappear completely.

Noisy bearing is nothing to worry about but I will still take it back. MB might keep the car overnight so investigate something like this.

Hi and thanx for effort!
Like u stated, injectors should have consistent sound! However, AD told me, its the fuel pump, that is doing that sound. (?? )

In my first vid (since 30 sec), You can see that i tried to change revs (slight increase, then let off, again slight increase and let off (oil temp was about 55 Celsius, so not completly cold/warm). You can hear that ticking frequency raised with revs (uneveness remains, its only faster) and fell down with let off throttle again..
Now im becomming pretty sensible to that sound, i can hear it clearly even when fully warmed up. Hm..

+1 on the above.

Sounds like a pulley or a component linked to the drive belt.
More like a chirp than a tick if I've got it right.

Visit to the dealer unfortunately.

Good luck.

Sorry, I think you misunderstood me. I own a W205 C63 S and owned a W204. They both make the noise. Hope this makes my point clear to you.

This is a long shot, but that really sounds similar to when my dipstick was prtially pulled out. Try pulling the dipstick out and put it back in make sure its secured tight in there... i really hope that's all it is. Good luck!
