Stop / Start and A/C
Hi Guys,
Had my car in the dealer as stop start never worked (I know a god send to most but being OCD, I want it all working)
Changed engine mount and when I picked it up, Green stop start and was working fine.
On way home, I noticed the A/C button was off. I turned it on, off went the stop start green, back to yellow.
Turned A/C off, on it went back to green.
Tried it a few times and always the same.
Wasn't until I was another 10 miles through town that the A/C button stopped affecting it. Is this normal?
Outside temp is 7 degrees C and car set at 20 degrees C. Heater was on and felt no need for A/C to switch on as climate control is set to AUTO.

Stop/Start function being regulated by the A/C and heater is totally normal.
These functions need the motor to be running to work. Not all the time, but most of the time, they need it running.

Hi ya,
A bit weird that some times it needs it the A/C switched off when the car is actually heating up? I drove a C Class none AMG, forget the model and it didn't act the same. It didn't care if A/C was on or off.

It's situational. I'm not sure why this is so hard to understand for you.
The A/C compressor needs to be spinning for it to work. You can get away with a bit of residual cooling but on a hot day, it will need to be spinning 100% of the time to work.
Same with the heat. The car cannot produce heat unless the motor is up to temp.

But that's the point. At this moment in time, A/C isn't running, the car is cold. The outside temp is 5 Degrees today, car inside is aiming for 21 Degrees so A/C not required. The heater is switched on, this isn't stopping the stop / start from working. When I switch on the A/C switch, which should do nothing as A/C isn't required, the stop start turns off. The car isn't misted up or anything like that. I have another none AMG C Class sat next to the C63s, same temps, same time of day, two cars following each other, C63S wont stop start will not work with A/C switched on, other C Class the A/C has no effect???

I'm just the same, if it's on the car I want it to work whether or not I use it, my stop start is is like yours, works sometimes, been to dealers a few times to sort it, new battery installed and still has a mind of it's own, sometimes the green light is on when moving orange light when coming to a stop, it's completely useless.

The Auto Start/Stop function also need a certain voltage on the battery. Cant compare to other cars without checking that the batteries are in similar state.
Very situational, chill with your OCD and take a longer ( 1.5hrs ) drive.

A/C will still be in use if the climate control is on as it will still be drying the air to take the moisture out of it. It doesn't just cool the air. So until it has conditioned the air inside the car it will need to run which disables the stop start.
