Downpipes, tune and exhaust

Next week I am having downpipes tune and exhaust done on my 2017 c63s cabrio and I am starting to have some concerns on the downpipes due to some things i have read about the smell.
Can anyone give me some advice as to how much of an issue this really is?

Some say no issue, but I'm having cats right now welded in as the smell for me is to much.

Burns your air ways...and doesn't suit this type of car.

Like any cars without cats, there will be smell. You won't smell it during driving, however people around you would. You might smell it while stopped depending on which way the wind blows. You will smell it the most in confine areas, indoor, garage, drive thru, etc. I think it's a personal thing rather it bothers you or not. I care more for performance/sound so most of the cars I've owned despite of the "class" been catless.

If you research this topic in depth you'll find it can potentially be a very serious issue both health and legal issues wise, catalytic converters are there for a very specific reason the smell your referring to are noxious/toxic fumes, (in your case more obvious with a convertible) it really bewilders me that people remove them for the sake of more noise/power, if you want more noise/power then retrofit hi performance replacements, you'll get the same result without poisoning yourself and others in the process, IMHO well worth the extra expense.

Also in most Countries if you remove catalytic converters you've just rendered the vehicle illegal and unroadworthy, good luck then if you happen to need an insurance claim and they discover removed cats...

Do some research on Vibrant GESI Cats, I purchased the 3830 units which are Ultra High Performance 500-800hp per cat and you will need two.

I drove the car around for a couple of days with catless downpipes and an AWE Track Edition Exhaust and the car sound like a drag car and honestly between the over bearing noise the smell and the fear of being pulled over by the Police it was terrible.

Remember my car has an AWE Trake Edition exhaust which is a straight thought twin 3" (no mufflers).

I cant speak for those who have catless downpipes and factory or aftermarket exhausts that are fitted with mufflers.

Added the Vibrant GESI cats today and it's a pleasure to drive again, the drag car sound was reduced dramatically only marginally louder now then when fitted with factory downpipes and no smell or gases to worry about.

Totally hear you regarding not wanting the smell from cat-less. Not sure of any other catted high flow downpipes aside from Renntech's which are not cheap by any means. If I don't find any other options they will be the ones i go with.

Not sure who else mats high flow catted down pipes for the c63s. Found these https://www.supersprint.com/ww-en/sp...0-hp-2015.aspx

I recommend Mike's Custom two piece downpipes as the quality is awesome, well priced unlike others, welds are super neat, are 3.5" down to 3", are two piece, are LHD & RHD compatible and he can do catless or fit GESI cats.

I should have had Mike manufacture mine with the cats but I wanted to test catless first.

Before ceramic coating
After ceramic coating
GESI cats fitted

Evo X
My personal opinion would be to never drive around without cats on any performance car unless used on the track only. I drove my Evo around for 6 years with no cat. Lots of the guys ended up putting the cat back on.

Will start giving you memory problems and such. On this type of car you don't want it smelling that bad for you or other drivers behind you. It is a very powerful toxic smell

Mikes customer service is as good as his downpipes.

Spend the the extra money and get him to add the cats.

Send him an email and let him know I referred you.
