The one from Active Sound is the one that requires a hardwire with the canbus if I am correct. Besides the plug and play plugs you need to cut and strip two wires manually no?

Yes, it requires connecting two wires manually. But I still felt it was the best option. This or the ASR with the adapter were the two options for me, and the service from Active Sound was better during the bank holidays. Let's see when I get the stuff, I'll have a friend install it.

I'm confused, why on earth would you mount these modules in the engine bay? I feel like we're getting lost in translation here.

The AVC (active valve control) is the only one that taps into the can-bus and requires you to actually strip and splice wires in the trunk so that it's operational via the ESP button.

The ASR and the other products mentioned (Chrome-tec, DB Autoveredelung) are plug and play directly to the two rear exhaust valve plugs, and the module is then MOUNTED in the trunk.

I don't like the idea of messing with can-bus and splicing wires, even though it's a more elegant solution since you operate it via the ESP button instead of a wireless keychain... but honestly, ease of installation (and the least obtrusive) is what's most important to me since I'll have the valves open 99.9% of the time I drive anyway. The switching functionality itself does not really matter much to me. So personally, I'd skip the AVC and go with whoever has the best deal on the ASR-style valve controller.

Hi Alex! If you’re right, two suppliers I’ve been emailing with are wrong. Both of them told me the unit goes in the engine room. I have these emails and I’d be happy to send them to you if you’d like.

Either way, I’m mounting/hardwiring this to use my exhaust button. I don’t want any remotes. But that’s just me!

I think it may just be a language barrier issue, because none of these are mounted in the engine bay. Here's an install pic of the Chrome-tec which is the same install as the ASR:

I don't even think the wiring harness would be long enough to reach the engine bay from the exhaust valve motors at the back bumper.

****. Well it looks like I’m misinformed then. Just hoping my solution will work. I’ll revert back once I’ve received and installed the unit.

And this is a W205 C63S and not C43, right?

Yes, this one is specifically for the C63S: http://www.chrome-tec.com/Mercedes-C...s-AMG-C63.html

I've been in the back of the trunk before and that module is mounted right next to where the exhaust valve plugs are wired to the ECU/can-bus (though for the install, you plug at the actual exhaust valve motors and run the wiring up through the trunk, there's an opening for wiring).

This is the exhaust valve plug as it sits stock:

And this is with the plug intercepted:

Then you just run the wiring up to the trunk and mount the box. Very straightforward install, would probably take a half hour or so.

Wow, they just lost a sale because of this. Well well, I've already got mine on the way, so will have to do with the manual re-wiring in the trunk. Let's see how it goes!

Broski is probably watching the forums and thinking "you guys are going to buy anyway, no discount for you!"

This is way more expensive than the ASR unit which plugs in to loom in boot no running wires out side of boot much easier and cheaper at only 250 Euro's why pay 690 euro's for the same thing?????

it takes 2min to install once you have the boot floor removed (takes longer to remove boot floor than to unplug and plug in unit)
I have had this unit on my C63 S Edition 1 for 5 months now and love the sound you get in all modes full burble at low revs:naughty

Which one is it that you have? Do you have videos of sound in different scenarios?

I have the ASR unit for late 2016 C63 S, I went for this one due to the Active sound unit requires you to cut into wires for can bus connection so that you can use the original button to activate valves fully open. I don't have any sound clips as depending on which country and what exhaust update you have the sound will be different and sound clips don't really sound the same as in real life.

placed an order of the ASR unit on Sunday and received it today (DHL from Germany to UK). Just installed it. It took me no less than 10 mins to figure out how to remove the trunk floor panel (using force in the end....). there are 3 connectors with 2 in white colour. unplug the the white connector that has a brown cable (the other white one does not have a brown cable) and connect both leads to the module. DONE! it took less than 1 min to install the module. As above mentioned, the exhaust button that comes with performance exhaust does not work any more, which is fine for me as i dont want to mess up withCANbus. Use the remote control to open or close the valves. exhaust sound is much louder at low revs, which i love most, especially at 2K to 3K RPM.

Hi all, quick update from Sweden.

I'm SUPER HAPPY with the end result after installing the Active Valve Control from Active-Sound.eu yesterday. Now I finally hear the potential in this car, it has a deep tone and is much louder during low RPMs. I can no longer cruise unnoticed on the streets apparently (if flaps are open). Another thing I need to mention is also how quiet and comfortable the car is when the flaps are 100% closed. Videos are coming, just need a tool that lets me blur my license plate. Any advise on software I should use?

Yes, I paid a higher price for my unit. Yes, I needed to "hardwire" and cut cables in my trunk - but it's worth it with the security features this module has. Even if my flaps are closed 100%, they will be forced open at high RPMs. The installation took about 20 mins.

I'm still waiting for my MB dealer to get back to me in order to get the latest software to get some loud crackles. I can't wait.

Please make sure the unit you are mounting has the same features, in order to not cause damage if you end up driving hard with the flaps closed.

EDIT: The perks (and reason it's more expensive than competitors) of the Active Sound version is that the exhaust button in my car still works, and it has the security feature mentioned above.

Love it, it's like a new car when you idle it too. The depth of the sound is magnificent.
