I love the 4.0 liter motors soundtrack. Downshifts are nuts and upshifts are intoxicating in lower gears. Combined with the grip of new PS4S tires, the sounds are so much more pronounced.

I’ve seen a bunch of videos of our cars on instagram with seemingly endless amounts of snap crackle pop. Cruising on the highway, the driver dropped a gear and accelerated lightly for 2-3 seconds. When he abruptly let off the throttle the car sounded crazy for a solid 5 seconds. Unfortunately it was in a different language so creeping the comments was useless.

I’ve searched the forums with little information being available on any of the tunes out there increasing the crackles and pops. Anyone have info as to what company may be able to add more drama?

It was on Instagram and I didn’t save it like an idiot. Unfortunately, copying text from instagram on an iphone isn’t possible. Typing it and using google translate returned garbled nonsense. I’ll try to find the video again but the little I did translate appeared to be insta bots saying nothing useful.

it' defiantly possible to make them as ridiculous as the BMW burble tunes but it seems not alot of tuners do it. I have seen a video on YouTube that was in German that I can no longer find of a c63s crackling forever and a video more recently of a straight pipe amg gts also with ridiculous overrun.

Jesus..... That’s pure insanity!!!! I found the video but this website is being cranky with formatting so I’ll have to wait til i get in front of my PC to upload. That sounds identical to the crackle video I found intensity wise. Duration is wayyy longer in what you shared. If I had any input or control over the intensity, i’d go bat **** crazy loud for 3-4 seconds then blend back in to the crowd. There’s a wild strip of party bars jammed together in downtown Pittsburgh. I can only imagine dropping the hammer on a summer night when the street is packed full of drunk people and hot girls 😂😂

Catless DP’s and a tune will help. Exhaust does too but not as much as the DP’s.

Don’t need any dpipes, just remove secondary cats. No o2 sensors, no codes and your done.cracks on upshifts and downshifts.

I have catless downpipes and tune in combination with amg performance exhaust and the sound is ridiculous. It's hard not to be a ricer about it when it just crackles with anything you do haha

And I'm coming from a 800whp 135i with bubble tuned set to max loud lolol

yes of course it’s louder under load, but fully reversible and no drone at all. Quiet when valve closed.

I did the secondary cat delete and while it was worthwhile, it left much to be desired. In my opinion, the 20% increase in volume after the aforementioned mod suits 50% of owners. The other 50% still craves moar loud, all of the turbo noise and car alarm disturbing pops/bangs. There is no way that a tune/downpipes could multiply the duration of deceleration backfires. My original question was asking if anyone knew of a tune or mod to replicate the craziness in the videos.

TLDR: Does anyone know how to make our cars do race car stuff like the videos above? 🏎💥😵

Full straight pipe will get you that ridiculouslness. At AMG Private Lounge, they fired up one of the GT3/4s and it had the 4.0 with straight pipes.. sounded just like those vids.

Lol rAce car all day. That’s wild a simple straight pipe will produce those results. The multi gazillion page thread pertaining to the exhaust sound post software update implied that most of the pops and crackles are due to the tune.... I assumed that straight pipes would change volume not duration.

You got the last part bang on right. The sound quality of these cars are completely synthetic, i.e comes from the ECU. Change in exhaust structurally and technically will only change volume.

The tune will increase turbo pressure and create more exhaust pressure. The pops and cracks are unburnt fuel getting into exhaust as a result of said pressure

My suggestion of removing cats will simply allow a larger volume of unburnt fuel into exhaust, hence bigger cracks.

the exhaust configuration can completely change the sound as evidenced by the new Aston Martin. The car borrows the AMG 4.0, but sounds completely different. Car has a much higher crescendo note.

The Aston Martin sound is exactly what I have been looking for... any ideas on how to obtain it without removal of cats? Our state (Nevada) is very strict and they perorm a visual inspection every other year on the cars....

Would they know if you remove the secondary cats? As long as they see the primary ones. I do not think they sit at the inspection centres with the BOM of the exhaust system.

i would take a look at how their exhaust is routed in rear. Mufflers are probably sourced from older Aston’s.

So just to update this a little I found this video. if you go to 3:10 you can see he has a tune that is quite a bit over the top on pops. No idea what he said the whole video but someone might be able to figure it out.
