Panamericana Grill Swap (pre 2019 models)
I’m sure this will be a common question so I figured I’d start a repository for information, pics, part numbers, etc I just called MB of Austin and spoke to a parts guy there. His confidence level in his answers rated as a 2/10 so I’m hoping some of y’all can find some good info on whether or not this can be a straight swap. I like this new grille a lot and would love to do this swap if possible. Cheers |
The 2019 deliveries don’t start until early 2019 in the US, probably earlier in other Euro countries though. So we’re pretty far out when it comes to getting the part number and ordering. I’m pretty sure I’ll be swapping when it’s available, I think it looks really nice. |
Well, confidence level is not high probably because they haven't seen the new one in person yet, let alone be issued P/Ns or service manuals. You basically asked him something that only people in Affalterbach would know right now.
From the PICTURES though, it looks doable purely from the front view of the '19 and '18. Might need a little bit of retrofitting, but any shop worth their salt could probably do it. |

His exact words were “I’d have to go to the showroom to get a VIN and get you the part number, although I think the 2019s have a different bumper, fenders and hood, but I’m not really sure” Either way, I appreciate the input fellas. Yes, bumpers are different. But mostly the lower valance part for the intakes and exhaust/diffuser. Grill and up, and hood, haven't changed. |

Point was, no 2019s are in showrooms right now, esp not States-side. So there's no actual way for him to pull the info, if it were even available. The facelift was only recently revealed after all.

Rather not install a knock off from China. OEM or nothing for me. Fitment has to be perfect and take into account the front facing camera and the distronic sensors. Not quite the same either, design-wise the knock-off followed the AMG GT's version rather than the slightly different new one. And I have the distronic stuff that basically requires me swapping the star. I believe the grills that support the distronic setup are fundamentally different than the grills that don't (they can use the regular star or the illuminated one). |

I don’t care for the black vertical one....definitely interested in the oem version (or after) if it was able to be retrofitted. |
https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...7f5c3e843e.png Side by side for comparison.... after looking at it for a week I’m still not sure which I like more. |
I like the older one because it looks more fitting for a sports sedan (vs the Panamerican style looks more suited to a luxury sedan)
|
Overall, I think it looks nice. I saw it in person when we flew up to the NY auto show. However, I feel like the look is more optimized more wider front than the c63 already is (i.e. GT width). Can't say that I didn't consider a grill swap though
|
I liked it on the GT. Given AMG is switching the 63s to this grill, may as well do the swap if possible. Again, don't wanna be confused for some 43/53 :)
|
You could change to the new grill and then add the three M colors to three bars and really confuse everyone.

Grill Swap maybe
I am 50/50 on the grill swap later on. However, I definitely would NOT swap out for the new lower intercooler fins.
By removing the mesh grill and installing the horizontal fins, rocks or other debris on the highway hitting either or both of your intercoolers will leave you with a very expensive coolant leak, all for no reason. |
Panamericana grille works on the GTs, not so much on the C63. Undecided.
|
Agreed. Saw a Buick behind me yesterday and it reminds me so much of the new grill... big turn off for me. |
I like it. Any updated information?
|
|
Arghhh. Wish I had never seen that... |
Reminds me so much of Audi grills, it's just different, not better or worse. If the panamerica grill was the first version, the current version would look new and different too...

There's a grill in that pic?
