Burger Motorsports 2018 C63 Dyno Testing

Hey guys,

We were able to get our new C63 strapped down today for a little tuning. Our development car is all stock with around 800 miles on the clock, base model, $68,000 sticker price. Fuel during testing was 91 with a couple gallons of E85 mixed in. We think these results will be repeatable on good quality 93 octane fuel but will retest in the future. Temps in the 70s.

The cliff notes:

1) Stock performed better than expected at 465whp / 490wtq, stock boost was ~9.5psi under these testing conditions.
2) Using the JB4 we raised boost up to 15.5psi peak but kept a nice taper up top to keep things safe. Power jumped up to 537whp / 597wtq.
3) We previously determined that the factory intake is a major restriction so we installed a prototype BMS intake system with the car on the dyno and the reduced restriction allowed it to hit 561whp. https://www.n54tech.com/forums/images/smilies/eek.gif
4) We ended up dialing back torque a bit in the end to smooth out the power delivery but there is plenty on tap. This platform can probably break 700wtq if you really want it to.
5) With all the torque on the road we've set the JB4 to limit boost in 1st and 2nd gear for improved traction. It's a nice JB4 user adjustable option there for you when you need it.

Also worth mentioning the JB4 is different animal than all of the other C63 tuning boxes currently available for the platform. Offering CANbus, fuel control, wireless logging to your smart phone, and a lot more to be discussed later. We're just getting started here.

Great to hear! I'll be in line for a JB... Came from e92, had JB4 for a little while... Glad I've been holding out for a tune!!

I'm in as well

Mr. Pink 09-18-2018 11:03 PM

I'm definitely in.

How will it work for us guys who have ECU tune?

Coming from n54 world, I know cars that ran jb4+mhd, will "back end flash" be a thing? Or do we need to flash to stock and go from there?

Too early for such questions? 😅

Where do I send my money

I'm actually surprised to hear the factory box is the weakest link... I don't think any of the intakes yet have shown any real world data that their intakes make any extra horsepower, despite widespread claims that the airflow in the stock airbox is less-than-desired.

And... Is your "prototype air box" the trusty 'ol DCI? 😂😂😂😂

I just switched from M4 to the C63 and it would be grate to stay with JB4. Sign me also up.

Very exciting news! Add me to the list as well, as a JB N54 customer from 2007.

Some folks may owe that C43 guy an apology. I admit that I was somewhat harsh in a post or two, but that was directly due to your admin handling my question on development of a product for the C63 in a ridiculous and disappointing way. Anyway, glad to know the good news!

Being new to this... is this a piggyback being developed or a bench tune? And will it work with the high flow cats I have on the way if it's a piggyback? I spoke with Dinan and their piggyback isn't recommended with aftermarket cats due to air/fuel/boost differences.

Thedrknte 09-19-2018 09:48 AM

Sign me up.... How much will the intakes be? Will they ever be for sale? If not, when will the JB4 be released/any idea on pricing yet? I have a 2017 C63 that I'd love to JB4.

Piggyback.
Yes it works very well with DP's 😂 will also tune out the CEL
Dinan has never made tunes for DP's because it's not emissions legal for street cars and they sell through dealerships.

if those stock vs tuned graphs were at the wheels, What HP is the stock and tuned making at the crank?

I thought the crank HP for a base was 469 Hp?

raudiace4 09-19-2018 12:55 PM

Awesome, if pricing is similar to M3/M4 JB4 this will be unbeatable for the price.

lovepower1 09-19-2018 01:37 PM

Cant wait!!

And yeah, so many owe an apologize to that c43 guy that was talking rumours about this coming up. Some forum members think they know better because they have a bigger engine... 😂😂

Jon@BMS 09-19-2018 05:46 PM

Thanks everyone for your interest! We'll be sharing more logs and details as development progresses and we get closer to release. We are targeting intro pricing around $899 for the JB4 unit but don't have any specific details yet to share on the intake pricing. Expect some more videos and information coming out in the next few weeks. Keep an eye on this thread for updates!

skim7x 09-19-2018 06:35 PM

So sick... Game changer. PayPal ready 😂

More details on the intake as well please -- I was really sold that the intake was not significantly restricted... Love to know your thoughts

It's cheaper for Mercedes to simply underrate the base C63 HP than it is to develop a separate ECU map.

Troll 09-20-2018 07:22 AM

Great news but why the $300 Mercedes tax? JB4 for the M3/4 is $599
