Anyone blacked out their grille?

How did you do it? Paint? PlastiDip? Vinyl wrap?

Was it relatively easy to take the grille out? Thanks.

I wrapped mine w/ carbon fiber vinyl which are a little harder than regular ones. Took me a good 6 hours taking my time and carefully doing it.

Looks proper. Did you have to drop the bumper to remove the grill?

yeah, tapped and covered everything with clear plastic, Worked perfectly. Problem with the wrap is you’ll see the edges no matter how good your wrap installer is. If the paint chips I’ll re paint. So far
no issues.

Mine is painted, grille in satin black and star in metallic black. Looks pretty awesome. I did it with a reputable local body shop, and the best way to paint it is to remove it and paint & dry it properly. Cost be around $350 here in very expensive Bay Area.

Nice thing about plasti dip spraying this section of grille in particular is that when it does chip from a rock hitting it I can litterly pull back the paint and re spray it an hour. Cost $20

i thought about having it professionally painted but would rather be able to fix in an hour for next to no cost. And to be honest look great.

looks great in ur pix . to each their own, it was just my personal opinion. I had dipped some stuff before and over time it just looks dull, I know you can reapply it and all but still . over sprays and stuff just not my thing anymore.

anyway, no offence or anything . ur car looks great brother

ScottsC63 11-28-2018 12:15 PM

No offence taken at all man, it’s not shiny gloss black has a little shine to it. It will probably fade and I may possibly try getting it wrapped but we will see. Have a great day.

I blacked out everything, except the AMG on the grill
Grill, door handles, fender badge, the three badges on the trunk, and the chrome strip on the trunk
Had a guy I know spray them all with gloss black AutoFlex Express
I think it came out awesome, and should have come like this from the factory

Looks awesome. Whats autoflex? Similar to plastidip? I want to black out my aluminum trim, but might have it painted. Not sure. I've dealt with plastidip in the past and it sucks.

you can get it wrapped as well

DonC63 04-15-2019 08:15 PM

yes it is similar to plasti dip, but has to be done with a spray gun in a paint booth.

I would call it a professional plasti dip
