Rusted Turbo on 2018 C63s

Is this normal?? The car has 2.9K miles. I just opened up the engine bay and I saw that the turbos are rusted.

I did take it to 3 different dealers and they said its normal. What do you guys think?!

It's normal. The housings are cast iron and will rust no matter what. My car was pristine when it arrived and had rust on the turbos as well. Drive it and enjoy it.

I've had three cars with the 4.0 TT and have never seen that. You guys must live in a humid climate. I'm right outside of Las Vegas. So very dry.

Right now, the weather is really cold. I'm located in Massachusetts. But I do remember that in the summer, it was really humid and muggy on most days.

This is correct !

The hot end cast iron part of turbo assemblies will all end up with a corroded surface like that if your car is rarely driven, in humid/high condensation or corrosive (close to the ocean) environments.

I own several turbo charged cars of different makes, including the twin turbo diesel C204, none of mine have corroded hot ends like that because of the lack of the above conditions.

That is normal.
Do a couple of pulls on the dyno and look at them when the car is at WOT they will be glowing red hot.

It's normal for them to rust, but I have to say that yours look worse than mine, and mine is a 2015 car with 35,000 miles on the clock...

Are you driving it hard? I know it sounds funny, but I think driving it hard and getting the turbos properly hot helps to hold back corrosion.

Thats a good idea to drive it hard!

Unfortunately, I've been away for work and the car has been sitting in the parking garage. It does move from time to time but not driven hard.

Pretty normal. If you don't like it take off your turbine housings and get them ceramic coated.

As for a dealership replacing turbos under warranty for this, I highly doubt MB paid out for it.

Not was I was told by the dealer, they said that after a lot of discussion with MB they paid fully for new turbos, there’s absolutely no way the dealer would pay the thousands it cost, I spoke to the mechanic who fitted them and he confirmed it.

That's pretty crazy that MB paid out. Me, personally, I wouldn't have worried about it. If I did anything I'd take the turbos out, remove the turbine housing and ceramic coat them a cool color and pick up a few HP

I wasn’t particularly worried about it and I could possibly have cleaned most of the rust off myself, it was a matter of principle, a new car shouldn’t have gone through the PDI and this not noticed and attended to before I picked it up.
