You were only 10 MPH over the limit, so you should be in good shape. Lucky you in some respects. VA. is very tough on speeding.

A friend of mine who had a similar sports car, spent time in jail for speeding.

Any driving speed 20 miles over the limit or any driving over 80 mph is considered reckless driving. In Virginia reckless driving is a class one misdemeanor. That means up to 12 months in jail. Almost every jurisdiction in Virginia will consider jail time for speeds over 100 mph. Many will consider jail for speeds 30 miles over any speed limit.

I'd be glad to share the outcome......on Monday when the gavel drops. I'll either lose my license, or have it restricted to particular times of day.........hoping for a restriction obviously.......IE, limited driving.

I received the ticket in April..........of 2018. And for some reason is was continued twice and then snowed out once. Here in NC everything shuts down when the flakes begin to drop. Plus they only have traffic court once a month.

Here in my state, it's a little better. The only way you get jail time here is if you get 3 or 4 speeding violations ( fourth degree misdemeanor) within one year. Otherwise if you speed say over 30MPH, most likely you'd get 4 points and a hefty fine on your record.

if I recall, a few years ago i'm at traffic court. this guy drove 100mph or 120mph ( cant remember which one), the fine is 2000$ or 4000$ (cant remember which one). that's all the judge said.

Yea VA is THE WORST. I know; grew up/lived there for 20+ years. Freakin ridiculous. 55mph speed limit on what used to be a 4 lane highway in each direction, and is now 6 lanes in each direction (495). They keep the speed limit low (not based on safety standards) purely for revenue generation. I remember seeing 3-4 cops pulling over like 7-8 cars at a time in the last few days of the month. Quota time (yep, it's real; they actually have quotas).

When I was there, in Fairfax County General District Court, the rule was, for every mph over 90mph = a night in jail. Regardless of your driving history. Ridiculous.

My biggest question is...why aren't you using Waze + a radar detector? Yea, yea, it's illegal. And? Sure cheaper than a speeding ticket! We didn't even have Waze or other crownsourcing apps back in the day; it was just my eyes, and the trusty V-1. Yea, I got caught with it - numerous times. But it was just an administrative ticket (like $37 for illegal possession & usage of a radar defeat device, and $62 mandatory prepaid court fee). And that was that. Considered it an unofficial tax, just like the tint and no front plate tickets lol.

You have the right to a fair and SPEEDY trial. If they continue twice, the third time I'd get it dismissed. If they can't hear your case in a timely fashion, that's their fault (unless the statute has some exception for weather and other circumstances beyond the control of the govt, etc).

I am glad that we dont have that in Europe. I am using detector with GPS database+jammer, and if you avoid traffic you can really cut Google maps time for 30-40%.. Last week we did trip Prague - Hannover, 650kms, Google 6hrs 50min.. Because of no speed limits in germany and low traffic we made it in 4hrs 10mins.

Its crazy these speed limits with modern cars and nice higways .

In NYC you can postpone your court for 3+ years which makes it to No Points on your driver license (only on driving record). Basically all you do is pay the fine. I paid $1500 in 2018 for 39mph over in 45 zone that happened back in 2014.

I know a few states, Alabama and Tennessee for sure, that is doesn't matter what speed you were going, it is only reckless if the officer writes it as reckless, otherwise they have a per dollar cost for every 10 mph over. I think if your going to play that game as we all usually do, then wait until you find a clean piece of interstate such that it won't be reckless. Passing cars on an inside lane doing 40 mph or faster than they are in the right lane, well I personally consider that reckless. Same with a bike. Its just dangerous and a split second lane change from someone can equal disaster. Although I will say this, with the exception of Saturday and Sunday finding a piece of open interstate is becoming more and more difficult these days. When I find myself witnessing one it is hard to hold back and not let her rip.

I"m knocking on wood as I say this, but the only time I've been pulled over in my C63S was for having no front license plate. Ended up getting a warning. I've been driving cars with no front plate for decades, and this was the only time I've been pulled over for it.

I had my family in the car with me when it happened, and I figured I was getting a ticket because my (at the time) 3 year old son was yelling at the officer saying, "Leave my daddy alone!!!"
