Reading the new 2019 owners manual, there's now a section on "Emotion Start." Never heard of this before. Is this new?

I guess I don't get the point. So it starts a little higher in idle, but only briefly. What benefit is that? I can't imagine getting "emotional" over that.

Sound is one of the reasons people buy AMGs. All AMG's and most performance vehicles have a higher revving louder start-up aka Cold Start. Yes, AMG owners and performance car owners are "emotional" about their cars sound. If you don't like performance cars or cars with louder deep throaty engines and exhaust to each his own.

I guess the point is I can rev an engine on my own...which I do a lot in Sports+ mode. I just find a brief high idle than falling not as thrilling as revving a engine from low to high. To each his own.

At least with a loud cold start, you can just shrug and say that’s how it starts!
Sounds like this is what was previously achieved by turning on the ignition first, then putting it in Sport+ before starting the engine. Now you can just hold one of the paddles and start it right away to get the same effect.

Yeah, honestly neither way is convenient. That’s why I bought the valve module so they’re open all the time.

im with the loud gang.. major reason for buying an AMG was the sound. This and the Maserati GranTursimo are my two favourite sounding V8s but the Maserati badly needs a refresh and an updated interior and speed so the choice was easy!

THIS. This is the point of emotion start. You get the louder performance exhaust sound quality startup without having to do weird stuff first.
