My first misfire - 2019 AMG C63s Coupe
#51
I still don't have an ETA on my car as it seems like the parts are on back-order...
I asked about release notes on the ECU update but I didn't get a solid answer. My assumption is that they'll never release those information to owners? But honestly, when i picked up the car last week and before having my second and third misfires the same day, I noticed more pops and crackles from the exhaust but I may be wrong at the same time since I was driving a ****ty C300 loaner...
My Sales Associate was telling me they once had a cab misfiring when they were unloading the car for the first time to dealership few months ago.

Did they manage to solve your misfires though? Or are you still waiting for parts?

Just had this happen with my car, kick down at around 20MPH to accelerate into the highway, the car chocked for a second and check engine light started flashing and became solid. Pulled over, the engine was rattling. Restarted the car, drove home for 5 miles no issues. Was driving in Europe on Shell V-Power 100, dealer fueled the car with unknown ****, and I just put a full tank of Shell V-Power 93 minutes before the misfire..

It will drive fine but you will get a misfire again (in a couple of miles) and then the CEL light will be on, and you will need to bring it in eventually. So I would bring it back or wait until you get it to the states.

So yeah, I officially hit the 30 day barrier yesterday and car is still on the lift waiting for parts. Honestly I love the car and my configuration but ever since I had the car, something bad would happen to me; I even had a open forearm compound fracture and was very close to lose my arm. I normally don't believe in bad eye but I started hearing this from many people...
Anyways, I should be able to qualify for Lemon Law and my dealer would be happy to help me with this situation. So I'm left with three options here:
1. Keep the car and forget about the "bad eye" and have Mercedes wave one of my payments.
2. Lemon the car and get a 2019 AMG GTC (MSRP: $169k; my price: ~$145k) which has rear wheel steering, 550hp, and pops and bangs like a MF.
3. Lemon the car and get a 2020 AMG C63s which is very close to my built except the exterior color (my favorite) and upgraded wheels (I don't care) and a price difference of $5k above my built.

Keeping your 2019 vs getting a 2020, I would say that your 2019 is the known quantity at this point. There's no guarantee that a new 2020 will be problem free and the 2020s won't be released until Q4, so you'd be w/o your new car for quite a while, assuming that the coil packs arrive earlier. With all the production delays some have seen with the 2019s, who knows when you might be getting the 2020.

If you can swing the GTC, definitely go for it. Neighbor has one and it sounds absolutely insane. Looks much more exotic and having tracked it many times, I can say it is a far superior handling machine.
2020 C63S might be another good option. The paint scheme is sweet. Like Swiss said, it should definitely be a better GT. Then again, Shmee dailies his GTR so the GTC should honestly be fine for most situations.
I’m with you on the bad luck thing. Don’t keep it, lemon for sure. You’ll never be 100% confident in it again.

Misfires are the bane of my existence. Bought my first AMG (CLA 45. I know, I know, spare me) and got a misfire code about 4 months later. Brought it to the dealership multiple times, couldn't figure it out. Started the lemon process, they tried to fix it one more time. They took it out for a test drive after "fixing it" and it proceeded to start on fire. Took about a year to settle, but I cant complain. It put me in a C63S. My advice is turn it in while you can.

@Ben Khoshabeh Sucks to hear about it and sorry that they couldn't get you those coil packs any faster! But if you don't need back seat and it's within your ballpark, definitely get the GTC it would be sweet. That car is just on a different level of driving.

The GTC would definitely be sweat. It's a different car, though and it just got facelifted for 2020. So you'd be going back to the old analog interior with the outdated infotainment system and driver zone. Personally, that would bother me after having experienced the updated interior. Aside from that, it's a very different car. 2 seater and much less practical. The C63 with its 2+2 configuration and a bigger trunk that properly hides the contents is arguably the more usable car. It was C&D I think who said in their review that the C63S is the better all around coupe than the GT. The GT has its advantages on the track, and is arguably the more prestigious car, so it comes down to which one suits your lifestyle better.

Can you share your region, gas brand and octane fueled to see if we can narrow down this misfire issue to see if it's gas related or not?

From my experience it has never been bad gas, just coil packs, both in my b8.5 s4 and the c63s. I also only put top tier brands 93 octane (shell, exxon, bp, sunoco) and never fill up when the tanker gas is refilling. 90% is all in NYC and the rare times that I'm in the middle of nowhere if I put non tier, never had an issue.
