Facelifted 5 spoke wheels...
Did anyone else notice they absolutely ruined the 5 spoke standard wheels with the facelift? I ordered a 2020 that's scheduled to be built later this month and just realized this. I would have flipped when I went to pick it up. Hoping there's still time to change the build since it hasn't started yet? This sucks because the original 5 spokes looked so clean. Personally I like the factory look. I'm not a fan of the other two designs either.

Anyone know if this car is lowered? The guy that posted the pictures made it sound like this was when he picked it up. But it sits a lot lower than the facelifted model... |
Each one with his taste.
i like a lot more the New ones Than the pre facelifted. |
I agree not as appealing. New design looks stouter, kinda of heavy duty and more fortified IMO.
Looks like absolutely no space between rim and caliper so cleaning more difficult. |

Agreed, still wish the salesman had mentioned this though. Has anyone else tried changing the order after they made it?
it depends on the status of your order. |

I tried like a month later to improve to the brown designo Leather and it wasnt possible. Too late.

I guess it's more of a personal preference. I like the facelift wheels better than pre-facelift. With the facelift wheels, the outer circle is fully connected with the star linking to it and no directly visible holes on the star. I also felt that the star feels more prominent in the facelift as opposed to seeing five circular segments in the pre-facelift. I also liked the slight curved (towards the hub) nature of the star as opposed to being drawn straight.
When I was configuring the car online, I was not sure of the new 5-spoke wheels either, but seeing the wheels in person on the car allayed those fears. Here is a more close-up photo from my car and the full car as well. If you're so concerned, I recommend you check out one of these wheels in person to make up your mind. You always have the option of going after-market for wheels. https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...165e3e2c4f.jpg https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.mbw...2ea122f2f9.jpg |
They look a lot better in those photos! I still prefer the older ones though. Thanks for sharing the photos though. It makes me a little less upset if they can't change the order.

Yes the fat “lip” on the new 5 star wheels was a mistake and definitely a downgrade from the pre facelift wheels.
|
At 1st I thought the new wheels were terrible, but they are starting to grow on me. I like that they look more substantial, it fits the look of the C better. They look awful on the blue car in the OP, however the pics on the white car don't look bad.

The salesman called today and said yesterday was the last day to change anything. Stuck with the wheels. What's the best way to get a used set of the forged split spoke AMG wheels in black? :) Ebay? I'm sure through a dealer it'd be 6k+
|
This is my car when it was brand new from the dealer. No it was not lowered, completely stock.
|
I think it looks good and appears to be an easier style to clean (except for the inside of the rim). If you don't care for the style there's a good chance someone might want to trade their black set of split 5 spoke for the new 2020 style.

Not terribly crazy about the optional mesh wheels. These are catching my eye, but in matte black.

^^^ Agreed. I just started looking into BC Forged this morning. Never heard of them before, but they have some nice looking wheels. Looks like it was a good thing I couldn't change the build. I like their wheels more than the black split spoke AMGs and after I sell the wheels that come on the car it'll be cheaper to get something aftermarket anyways. I was surprised to see HRE also has some reasonably priced wheels.
|
Along those lines, if I do go aftermarket, I would like to increase the width of the rears to 295. What would be the wheel size (width and offset) to order to get a wider wheel on the rear of a sedan without any poke or rub? Want to stay with 19s and will not lower the suspension.
HRE's reasonable priced wheels are the flow formed. They are not quite the same as true forged monoblocks. |
Whoever sells you the wheels should know. You can do 295 on the stock wheels. So maybe stick with the factory sizes and offsets. I can't remember if it was 295's or 305's on stock wheels, people were lowering the profile to 30. Should be able to search and find it. I also just decided to pull the trigger a set of HRE's. Just waiting on a dealer in my area to get back with me.

from what i understand those rings are "Aero discs" to reduce turbulence and make for a more aero profile face when the wheel is in motion. ive seen older cars with this similar feature. im not a fan though.

An added benefit is that the color of the lip is almost identical to selenite grey. |
I think with the new lip and wheels actually look smaller than the old ones.
