so what's the final word on the best battery pack available? I can't find anything anywhere with iroad available. even on their own website it says they are out of stock.

is there a better/more reliable option than the blackvue power magic one?

The blackvue battery packs work well just not the switches.

This is what I used :
Power Magic Ultra Battery (B-124X)/ Expansion (B-124E)https://www.blackvue.com/product/pow...ansion-b-124e/

I am looking at the iRoad battery as well, since it has a much larger/longer capacity.. but I am very happy with my current setup as well.

@FLC63s , you talking about one of these: http://iroad.kr/global/?page_id=6127?

Where do you even buy one? How is are the connectors different or compatible with the blackvue? Are all the wires the same?

Hey Buddy,

Yea I will upgrade to on of those in some point in the future, but not something that is a MUST DO at the moment.
The wiring is all the same, (just have to match it up with the harness they have for the plug) its a 12v stuff, so any GOOD installer will know what to do .

BlackVue Cameras or any DashCam for that matter just needs power, (12v), so any battery storage solution will work, its just getting the best that meets your needs and requirements. If you drive your car every day, then your needs are different then someone that only drives on weekends etc..

The reason for the External (or separate) battery, is to keep the camera from drawing from the car battery , and with newer cars, like MB's , its NOT GOOD to have the main battery discharged .. for 1, it resets all your settings, its a ***** to get restarted, unless you are just JUMP START happy. (its not good on the systems, etc)

I drive my C63s at least a couple times a week, if not every day depending on the weather (South Florida) and if I have lots to do at work, and hauling things around, I use my SUV.. So I could benifit from a longer-lasting external battery to keep the camera going for days I dont drive it. (the external batteries charge in 30-40 mins of driving)

@FLC63s thanks for all your input and the info to the installer. in the time that you've had the camera, have you had any problems with it yet? I daily drive the car so I will be only getting a single battery. I will be also getting that mobile wifi hotspot since I live in an condominium and my home wifi wont reach the car.

FLC63s, did you look into pros/cons of the Cellink Neo vs the Blackvue (or the iRoad linked above)?

I know a year or so ago, Power Magic Pro was the big thing (you've already mentioned the problem with running this off of your car battery), OR going with the Cellink B (which was also the big thing at that time in terms of battery packs). But one guy actually did what I was considering: installed BOTH: https://f87.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1457010

TIA!

We have been a long-time dealer of BlackVue Dash Cams and recently started carrying Nextbase Dash Cams. The BlackVue units are definitely great performing items, but the Nextbase Dash Cams are slightly better in our opinion. Build quality of the units are top-notch and having a screen on the unit itself is definitely convenient.

You can use any external battery pack, I just dont recommend connecting to any HOT wire to power it. (that is the only reason you would use the power magic pro) as for the link you posted, that is a BMW, and there electronics are much different then on a benz, and more so an AMG / or S .

CelllinkB, iRoad, external battery packs are just that - external battery packs.... There are cheap ones, and expensive ones, good ones, and bad ones...

So basically avoid active load/draw installs (PMP). Stick with external battery packs. And if you really want/need extended life, stack/add the external packs. Reminds me of caps for audio systems back in the day

From your research, which are the best external packs? Esp one that allows you to remotely check the battery level (eg iPhone app)

And so I take it these battery packs only draw (recharge) while the vehicle is on, so the load is being charged by the alternator current, not off the battery itself?

That is correct , they only charge when the car is on/running .

The remote battery level checking, is mostly based on bluetooth, so you have to be near by to check levels. (they only take @40min or so to fully charge)

@FLC63s , did you ever verify if you have the free cloud account (that caps out at 10 mins live viewing per day)? it seems unlimited viewing is only if you pay the first tier, at $10/mo...?

I have the car, the camera and the Power Magic Pro and still waiting for my friend to let me know when he will install it for me.

The Power Magic Pro has a switch so if you leave the car in your garage or anywhere else for a log time you can just switch it off so it doesnt keep using your battery.
I'll be only using it when Im out parked for a few hours and other times it will be only running when my car is.

Really cant wait to get it all hooked up as so many idiots on the road have no ****en idea how to drive of just concentrating on something else.

I have the Blackvue DR900S-2CH 4K UHD installed along the B124 battery pack. Highly recommend this combo!! I recommend installing it yourself, it's very easy with just one ground wire and one fuse in the trunk.

Finally in and fitted today with the Power Magic Pro.
Formatted SD card to Fat32 and installed update from 64GB card when I'll upgrade once my 128GB on arrives.

Only tested it in the garage so far but once it stops raining it will be getting a bit of work.
What time Video Segment do you guys have it set? 1, 2, or 3 minutes.
Do you have Wi-Fi auto turn on ticked?

Just wait till the tint settles (about 5-7 days) in heat, and you will be good.. Although, if your mounting in the center under mirror, you will not be on the tint line (at least legal tint line) mine is just below it.

@FLC63s remember, I'm going to get my entire windshield tinted 75%. i'm only doing it to reduce heat in the car, not because i want it darker on the windshield. i'm hoping the front tint will hold up to the camera weight...i'm going to wait a week to get it installed

ahh I see..

Well either way, yes I dont see it not holding it, just let the tint cure , and it will be fine.. (camera is not that heavy, and tint glue sticks like a MF) as long as its cured.. so dont rush that part.
