Coilover question for those that have it?

I have a C63s as a loaner for a few days and overall its a pretty awesome car. One thing thats lacking for me, or atleast I cant get used to is the steering rack.

In pretty much every car ive owned I've had coilovers and one thing in addition to improved grip and handling, I always thought they improved steering stiffness and response. However, I've never had a car with the newer EPS systems.

So my question is, with coilovers, did you guys notice any improvement in the steering stiffness and feedback? Thats the one area that the stock C63 I'd love to improve somehow. If so, I'm buying this car tommorow! I know theres only so much you can do to change feedback from EPS, but just leaving hope out there for anyone with experience..

Thanks!

I suspect the main difference you are feeling is EPS vs HPS, but that horse is dead. EPS is here to stay and the C63S has one of the better EPS systems. As for the suspension, the 205 C63 has an adaptive damping suspension, so you are not gonna put coilovers in there w/o ripping all that out. Not sure anyone has done it, but I think most suspension mods on the 205 are limited to lowering springs. There might be some aftermarket systems that preserve the adaptive feature, but I haven't looked into it for lack of interest. I'm assuming your loaner is a 2019+. What drive mode have you been driving it in? The FL 205 has a brand new system called AMG DYNAMICS which adjusts the chassis dynamics. You only get the full chassis dynamics in Race mode with ESP at least in Sport Handling mode, or if you set AMG DYNAMICS to Master in Individual mode and also put ESP at least in Sport Handling mode and make sure you put the suspension in S+. In Comfort mode the steering is a bit vague on purpose. There's quite a bit of difference in feedback and driving dynamics between normal Comfort mode and full on attack mode with the chassis in Master mode and the suspension in S+. The FL C63S has the C63BS beat around the Nurburgring, so it's rather capable if setup properly.

Yea I know EPS will never be HPS. Not looking to match HPS, but just curious if there is any improvement to be had at all?

To answer your questions
- its a 2020 I believe. Digital dash is only on 2020 right? if not either 2019 or 2020
- Dont care about adaptive at all. A good set of coilovers doesnt need to be adaptive, they just work. KWv3 and PSS10 generally being very good in this department IMO
- Ive been using it exclusively in race mode and I feel it is acceptable at best, in terms of steering weight and accuracy. Its been in RACE mode with full stiff suspension.
- I have no doubt this car can equal or beat a C63BS. I actually have one of those, love it to death, but I can see how this car is superior in terms of power and grip. Its more a question of the feel that i'm going after. Again, I know EPS will never be HPS, but just curious if there is any improvement to be had by any means, and coilovers is what popped into mine just from past experiences with other cars

Thank you !!

2019 and 2020 are the same. Adaptive actually has many advantages that a fixed suspension cannot match, but not getting into a debate. As with all modern cars, they are somewhat softer overall and try to strike a balance between feel and rest comfort. The 205 is simply more refined overall, which might come across as less feel. I saw in your signature that you have the BS, that's why I mentioned it. The BS is obviously more track focused and there won't be a BS for the 205. One downside of having all these drive modes is that it can take a while to really find the combination that one likes the best. It took me several months to settle on the right combination of settings for my Individual mode for most of my driving and also the car gets better as it brakes in and the suspension settles etc. A big difference is also tires. I'm actually a bit disappointed with the stock PSS on this car and I'm much happier with the current set of PS4S I have on it. Transformed the car in many ways, steering feel and feedback is one of them.
