Just venting

So bought my c63s in mid February, that same day it went into limp mode with a cel ( rear diff ) it went away and a quick search found similar errors with other cars that said it needs an updated software. Did that, still can’t pass smog because my cat isn’t ready. Been told to “just drive it” that was 6,000 miles ago. Took the car to numerous dealers throughout San Diego, non could help. Been to a few Indy shops with no luck. My last shot, found a master tech with his own shop. Said he reprogrammed my cat monitor. Drove it about 200 miles but told me to do the same. As of now, the car still isn’t ready for smog :/ I’m hoping what he did will fix it.....

Christ. Sorry to hear the issues brother

What happens in the U.S if it's not ready for smog test? Does this mean the car will be off the road and can't be registered until the cat monitor is sorted?

Was the car brand new or used? I had this issue with my C43 when I was running ECU Tune and JB4 simultaneously. Try disconnecting the battery and let the car sit "dead" for a few hours. May be it will reset the ECU, at least it helped me

Man that SUCKS! So just to clarify this is a brand new 2020 C63S? And the dealership where you bought it is not stepping up and talking about replacing the car? I would think that is your next move my friend.

Yes Brother...if you cannot pass Smog test you cannot register the car. In AZ you only have to smog test cars that 5 years old or older...I am not looking forward to putting my stock DP's back on in 2023 to pass the test...Ugh

Bought new or used? Either way there’s emissions system warranty that’s longer than the vehicle warranty and they must fix it or offer alternatives.

I’m sorry, no this is a 2015 but completely stock and I wouldn’t need to smog because it does fall in that 5 years or newer rule BUT I bought this car out of state so it is required in order to register.

would discontenting the battery mesa up the electronics?

Make sure the car is completely off for about 15 minutes and keep the key as far away from you as possible. Then you can disconnect the battery.

Yeah, if this won't help then the car is most likely tuned

hmm I doubt it’s tuned, but who knows. I know the only aftermarket parts are the renntech bov, but that’s about it. Ok I’ll do as many cold starts this week and see it that works, if not, I’ll try the battery. Which is in the trunk correct, if I remember there is just a + connection in the front but the battery itself is in the rear

So last ditch effort.....talked to the emissions state ref, won’t let me pass unfortunately. Took it to the last dealership where I live, got a call the next day and was told while they were out driving my car they got a cel.....really?? Had it for 1 day and managed a cel? Not sure if I entirely believe it but at this point I’m fine being bent over and taking it if it means passing smog and finally registering my car. Hopefully I hear something today

So good news, finally got her fixed. Thank you Mercedes of Escondido! Told me it needed some update? Which I thought was already done 🤷‍♂️ but they even smogged for me 🥳 I’m now legal to drive hahaha only 5 months late. Oh and also got a new wing in celebration.

Good news for sure...I am not looking forward to having to go through this in 2023 when my car is 5 years old.

Nice wing...RW Carbon?

ya they said it needed new firmware....whatever they did, it worked.

RW carbon im assuming is a company? Or if your asking if it’s real carbon, I’d say no. It was only like $250. I wanted to see what it would look like and plan on getting the car wrapped in full stealth PPF soon

Good to hear...mine is tuned with catless down pipes but my shop told me that we need to check it with the diagnostic tool and if I pass 6 out of 8 it might pass emissions...haven't even looked yet as I have a couple of years to enjoy!

Yes RW Carbon is a company that sells quality CF parts for our cars...I recently purchased and installed some nice pieces from them on the front of my Coupe...not sure if you can tell in the pic (might have to zoom in) but the middle piece and the two canards are now real CF...wrapped in Xpel and ceramic pro applied on top of that. Good luck with your wrap.

oh sweet, I’ll have to check them out. I have a CF splitter coming. But want a diffuser next. So I’ll definitely give them a look. Nice car btw, looking good

How difficult was thew install on those pieces? I've been thinking about picking them up.

yes and they have quite a few rear diffusers to choose from.

Thank you on my car...I love it and it is my favorite performance car I have ever owned!

Difficult...in that the entire front bumper has to be removed. I had a shop do it and along with having the pieces Xpel and ceramic pro on top of all 3 pieces...the whole job cost me almost as much as the CF pieces themselves. But I had to do it because the previous owner did not Xpel the middle piece and it was in pretty rough shape from rock rock chips and the canards had faded to a gray color which is known to happen on the coupes. Hope this helps...
