Shuddering yesterday w/yellow check engine light

Shuddering yesterday w/yellow check engine light

Dropped it off yesterday afternoon. They found nothing. Zero. Said whatever caused it was not sufficient for the system to log the event.

Can't be coils because it would have logged a misfire fault even if the CEL disappeared on restart.

Did you just fill gas or fiddle with the gas cap? Reason I ask is the exact same thing happened to me last month when I filled up gas, got a CEL and car was vibrating. I felt it shaking and stuttering and could feel it with my leg resting on the footwell.
Filled with new gas and it never happened again and my workshop said there's no faults logged.

Funny that....... this EXACT THING happened to my lemon c63s when I overfilled my petrol and it spilled out onto the side of the car............ kept pressing the click click click and watching the infomercial on the bowser and wasn't paying attention then the engine light came up 100km later and car was vibrating & doing the electric boogaloo

Another 50km later the engine light decided to fu*k off.............. and just like that it was gone

After reading your response, my wife and I realized she had filled it up with gas the day before. Same Shell station we’ve used for years.

I’ll pay attention from now on.

Similar thing happened to me a couple weeks back. Shuttering/rough running accompanied by a flashing then solid CEL. Ran my own OBDII scan and found a cylinder 4 misfire. Took it to the dealer and they confirmed. It was in the shop for a week. The fix referenced TSB LI07.61-P-070707 and they updated the "ME Software" and then had to do a bunch of "engine adaptation drives" with follow up testing after each one. Seems to have done the trick. Car is a 2017 C63 non-s for reference.

This is why in the gas door says something about stop filling ehenhe pump stops. Don't try and top up any more or round to the next dollar. I learned this too with my 2012 c63 when I'd go down to the states to fill up on cheap/better gas and would fill as much as I could. It made my car stumble and miss on both occasions until I figured out what it might be. Here is a blurb that explains it better then I can...

Overfilling the gas tank can cause liquid gas to enter the charcoal canister, or carbon filter, which is designed only for vapor. Gas in the system can affect your car’s performance by causing it to run poorly

2020 C63S Coupe - Same thing just happened with my car just this evening (engine shudders and feels like it's misfiring; CEL came on). Gas is at a half a tank and haven't been to a gas station recently. Car has 3700m on it, so relatively new. Taking it to a dealer in the morning and will see what's what. Will post a follow up once they figure it out.

if the gad capped is not sealed completly (seated) it will cause this as well ( its a pressure issue ) my was picky enough that i had to make sure the cap was put on with the wording right side up. ( ie looking at cap you could read the writing) vs just putting it on any way.

Will give that a try; I appreciate the heads up. I was running at WOT for a couple of stretches in race mode right before it started happening. Started the car this AM and the CEL cleared and car seemed to run fine. Dealer has the car right now and I asked them to look into whatever codes they find, and to have a look at the car overall. Will see what they say. Thanks FLC63s!

Closing the loop on my prior posts (shuddering/CEL): Dealership found stored fault code LI07.61-P-070707 and cleared it. Dealership write up notes misfire of cylinder 4. ME Software updated, car runs fine now, actually seems to run better than before (even before the shuddering/CEL event; could be my imagination). Will post in case the issue returns and the resolution. Looks like the exact same thing crazy00c230k posted about on October 28, 2020 (#10) in the thread.

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but figured I'd just provide an update on my issue. Since my last post the CEL has returned on several occasions, but would always reset when the car was turned off/on. It was a minor inconvenience and, to be honest, I totally forgot to mention it when the car was in for regular services. A couple weeks ago, though, even that stopped and I had a permanent CEL. Took it in, turns out there was a crack in one of the coil packs (they didn't specify which part of it). Thankfully I got it replaced under CPO. I have a feeling this was the cause from the get go, perhaps the crack just kept getting worse with time/heat cycles. Car runs smoother than I can ever remember now, crossing my fingers this is going to last.
