Wagon wheel upgrade 19/20

So I put some coupe 20J rears on the back with 295 tyres, they are tight! But they fit, might get rubbing at full travel, but I'd need serious air for that to happen.

I then put the standard rears on the front with 20mm spacers, so running the standard rear 265 tyres. It's worked perfectly. Some before pics:

That's mental. Any scrubbing issues or funny business? Your wagon looks beefy with those 20's up the back.

The only Merc wagon we get is the E-class.

Wagons just aren’t popular in the states.

Stock wagon are 19 x 9.5J in the rear and 19 x 8.5J in the front. Unfortunately the front are rubbing slightly and I don't want to go out further. I think I'll have to put 255 on the 8.5J and space them out to match the rear.

Put the standard wheels back on, while I figure out what to do.

I love your car mate, the wagon looks so tough now. There's something about the wheels that make it look more muscular. Can you take a photo right from behind so we can see the tyres bruv?

Just put 255's on the front, that'll sort out the rubbing.

Update:

285 PSS fitted ok, so sticking with them. Quite a bit of rim protection on the PS4.

Got some 9J coupe front wheels and had them machined to reduce poke, -7mm, so will see how they fit. Got 255 tyres to go on.

Machined by these guys:

They're on!

So now got the coupe fronts fitted, machined 7mm off the hub and took them from ET25 to ET32.

Would a coupe wheel in the front 9.0x19 ET 25 with a 245/35/19 fit?

I fitted coupe wheels and the poke was ridiculous, so I machined them down 7mm, removing metal off the back increases the offset, so it goes ET25 to ET32.

I tried 9.5" in the front, they were actually the old rear wheels which are ET56, so adding a spacer reduces offset down to ET36, but it rubbed on my strut. I could have spaced them out a bit more I suppose, but I didn't want more poke, hence why I machined some 9J wheels.

I also tried a 15mm spacer with the standard fronts, running a 245 on 8.5J, but I wanted to run 255 in the front and the coupe rears on standard 285 tyres have some stretch, so it would have the front bulging and the rear stretching, so wasn't good for my OCD!

So do you think i can run front coupe wheels in front without removing metal to increase the offset if i take a 245/35/19 tyre?

On my wagon they stuck out, it doesn't matter what size tyre you use, the rim was poking out like 5mm or so, very noticeable and not a good fit. I'm sure a 245 tyre would fit, but it would still poke

Okay thnk you. I will check it out by adding 20mm spacer to the oem sedan wheels. Then i can see in live how much the rim poke out.

It doesn't quite work like that as offset (as I understand it) is taken from the centerline of the wheel. So because the standard wheel is an 8.5J there will be less poke than a coupe 9J.

The coupe 9J is plus +12.5mm rim and +13mm offset hence the considerable poke!

Use the following calculator, it's got a good visual.

I've just put 20" OEM AMG wheels on the rear of my C63 (with 285/30 PS4 tires). Rear left has loads of clearance but rear right is rubbing on the inner arch casing (where there is a pipe running behind the arch). Any thoughts on why I might be getting different results to you? I think my car is identical model and the wheels visually look identical also!

Cheers in advance

Because you used PS4. They have a significant rim protection strip. I noticed it when I tried the 295, so when going back to 285 I used the PSS in M01. No rubbing whatsoever.

@SimMB

Thanks, I've checked this but the PS4s only stick out about 2mm max beyond the inside wheel rim?

The wheels are 10.5J (ET57) which I believe are identical to yours so I'm confused!
