Trunk kick-to-open function not working.

The SA this is a known problem on the 2020 C63S coupe with full CF kit. He’s saying there’s no current fix for this. Says the sensor is blocked by the rear bumper under hang.

It was working intermittently. Wondering out loud if it’s dirty or do I need to cut a small hole in that covered area for it to work.

Hmmmh...not sure about what your SA is saying. I have the CF exterior packages on my 2019 coupe and the Handsfree trunk mechanism works. Yes, it sometimes has a mind of its own, but it has to do with the distance between the sensor and your leg. You have to stand away far enough. If you stand too close it won't work. I do sometimes have to kick a few times before it opens, but generally it works. Definitely had more trouble at the beginning until I figured out where about I have to stand. It also seems to go to sleep quickly. For example I park in my garage and leave the car unlocked. It usually doesn't react anymore after a while if I try to open the trunk with the kick motion w/o waking the car up by opening a door first.

Brucey mate, your SA is telling you lies. Tell him to fix it or you'll raise a case with Mercedes USA.
Even though my car is a PFL, my indi installed the FL rear diffuser and all that and my kick-to-open works fine.

P*sses me off how the dealers give us so many excuses. From "it's normal behaviour" to "we're not sure". Hyundai owners get treated better than us by their dealers.

I have a 17 vert and I'm convinced my car doesn't have this feature!

Why do I like the Night package with the Chrome tips.
Calling my dealer once the car arrives to swap out the black tips.

Its because of Jimmy_c63s' profile pic.

Am I wrong or is that not even night package? Wouldn't the spoiler be black?

I had to have my rear Carbon diff replaced 2 times under warranty both times the CF around the sensor was peeling.. this second time my foot/trunk sensor isn't operating like before.. i am guessing the sensor got dirty or damaged during the replacement. It ALWAYS worked no issue and was actually very sensitive.. i never had to kick my leg twice under for it to pop the trunk.. Tell your SA you want the email from corporate showing there is no fix and that you will not take a word of mouth answer as we on the forums with CF have obviously proven that wrong. The only other issue i had on the car was the other day i race started and the car shut down. it dug in and sound like the tires were grinding hard like 2 revolutions of the wheels then died.. started right up after and no issues. I already drove like 34 miles so it was plenty warm and in the low 40's f. After i heal up from cracking my ribs and spraining my ankle thanks to the dogs going nuts i'll have the dealer check the two issues out and report back.

Then you’ll love this total BS response by the dealership:

Ok, wait a minute. Aftermarket trim? Is that true, do you have an aftermarket rear diffuser? Based on your original post I was assuming that you have the OEM Carbon Fiber exterior packages. The OEM CF rear diffuser definitely doesn't cause issues with HANDS-FREE access, but an aftermarket CF rear diffuser likely blocks the sensor if it wasn't specifically designed for it. If you installed the OEM CF rear diffuser after the fact, it's also possible that the sensor needs a different calibration due to the different material.

Yeah then, WTH about that response. Somebody forgot to attend training or something! It's not all that surprising, though. I'm finding the dealership service departments don't have a lot of experience with these cars yet. I've been the Guinea pig for a couple of things at my dealership. I had to point them to the front splitter after I cracked mine, because they looked in the wrong place to find the part number. Same with the Aero package side skirts that keep coming loose and AMG now finally has a redesigned part that screws on instead of glues on. I still have to get mine, they are supposed to arrive this month. At least my SA etc. are spending the time to learn or reach out to me and going above and beyond. It does help that the foreman drives a '19 C63S sedan.

That feature is stupid anyway. It closes the trunk on my head all the time when I'm pulling stuff out. I would rather disable mine

Never have that problem, but I heard of others. If you stand close to the bumper it's not supposed to trigger in order to prevent this. Yours may need some calibration. On the coupes its kinda invaluable, because there is no button to open the trunk on the outside. Have to open it from the driver's door or the fob.

That’s an old photo of when it was getting ceramic coated. My wife forgot to order the night package. The tips were off getting powder coated.

To be fair, I also have aftermarket CF on my car. Probably jacked up the sensors too

Vert doesn't have the electronic button to close nor does it have the kick to open function.

I have an aftermarket CF diffuser on my C63 and the kick to open function doesn't really work well anymore. I think it is a sensor issue, even though the shop that installed it relocated the sensor into the hole for that sensor in the diffuser...
